FA vs. Yiffit

The whole FA vs. Yiffit thing seems to be just the latest battle in a longer war.
On one side we have a site like FA which is open to all and sundry - no requirements and more-or-less unregulated in it's acceptable content.
That means that anyone can create an account regardless of skill-level and show off his art to a mixed community of other artists with all ranges of tastes, preferances, skills and talents.
Of course, this also means that any schmoe can spam the browse section with pics of his dog, screenshots of his Second Life character, 5minute notebook scribbles or whatnot and push other, arguably more worthy, content into obscurity. And it also makes it easier (as we've seen recently) for trolls to get in and harass people (we should all thank the mods however for being so quick at dealing with these pests).
On the other side, we have a site like Yiffit, which monitors content, screens it's users and strives to provide a more 'clean' and professional environment.
This allows skilled artists to interact with their peers in a more directed environment without having to worry that their agonizingly detailed five-hour project gets bumped into the obscurity bin by a slew of random doodles or asinine screenshots. They can also monitor content so that undesireable content such as scat or cubart can be excluded.
But before you can reap such benefits, you have to prove yourself 'worthy' to join those elite ranks. Mandatory "skill" requirments and content rejection based on the moderators personal perceptions/interpretations of the rules are an everyday requirment. It also creates an elitist attitude that is very divisive.
I bring all this up so as to say that both sites have benefits, and drawbacks - especially to the extreme poles of artistry - i.e. the very good, and the very bad/just starting.
To some very good artists (with bad attitudes), a place like FA is a hive of wreched mongrels, scrambling for attention.
Whereas to some that are just starting out (or have had there work rejected), Yiffit is a snotty group of elitist j-holes living in a fascist environment.
I already know that my work would never meet the quality standards that Yiffit has installed, but not all the work I want to see is of that high a quality, and there are people that I've met here on FA that I am glad to know who also aren't as good (but are still great people).
So FA works for me.
There are other artists who are frustrated by the lack of appreciation they get for their hard-wrought works next to sketchy horse schlong, and would prefer the critiques of their peers to the general (-ly porn obsessed) public. They also might not necessarily want to see pics of 3yo cubs with 15ft schlongs and 80lb boobs rolling around in their own dung.
Both sites were each made for different groups, and in their own ways operate for the benefit of those groups.
FA is an open street-market, while Yiffit is like a department store. They are each just as useful and personally, I'm glad that there are options out there.

FA+

I love FA its literally my home away from home <3
The result is a bunch of artists a random 6 out of 10 mods like, and few big names who are big names for REALLY good reasons and STILL aren't universally loved, and the occasional one that slips through the cracks for, um, illegitimate reasons. (like, check out that west coast furcon who's mascot happens to be the avatar of a con bigwig's girlfriend)
Better to wander through the hordes. Who knows? You may be part of the fanbase that pushes the next Dark Natasha up to stardom.
Pardon me, but making toast is not a metaphor for rebirth kthxbye.
