My couple religious friends always get het up when I start dissing their crazy fantasy life. For while I'm not into organized religion, I do acknowledge the fact that it has been a formative force in our society. There has always been a segment of any given population that has required the structure given to them by religion. Without it, they literally don't know how to behave. I believe in the existence of a formative organizing power in the universe- thats GOD to the laymen. I've seen too many things to deny that. I don't like organized religion, but I also acknowledge the fact that a great number of people need it to give their lives meaning. They are simply not fulfilled enough on their own enjoying what God has given them, so they get deep into their own form of "role playing". I think religion is a lot like the Furry fandom. The difference between us and them is that WE can see where the fantasy ends, where they refuse to- often to the point of violence.

We, as a group, are often not well received. The VAST majority of the public does not understand our ways, and many don't like to see us in public practicing our craft. One of the main reasons I refuse to become an adherent to Christianity is their disrespect of animals. I'm sorry, but if you believe in the existence of the soul, you simply cannot believe that humans are the only ones who possess them. Christianity, taken literally, has no place for animals in the "soul bowl". According to scripture, they are something to be used up and discarded… A gift from God to use as we see fit. I call BULLSHIT on that one, thanks. What an absolute pile of HUBRIS. The unmitigated GALL required to truly believe in that astounds me. I'd liken it to be larger than the chasm the founding fathers must have felt writing "all men are created equal" while their SLAVES toiled outside in the fields. Much like Christianity, they found the obvious disparity too inconvenient to do anything about. Not that some of them didn't try.

But I would be the last one on Earth to deny what they did based upon that. All of us have skeletons in our closets, some are just bigger than others!

I believe that one's faith is a private matter, and that going around showing your beliefs in people's faces is somewhat akin to waving your genitalia around in public. You may have a really impressive dick, but no thanks to having you show it to me and the kids while I'm trying to enjoy my burger at Wendy's. That's hard enough as it is.

Yeah, I agree with what your saying. I am all for religion if it helps you cope with life or say death when that time comes in life. I just don't like stuff thrown in your face about it. And zombies would have been fun. I am at my mates who has more than enough zombies protection.

What I find both sad and funny is how these religious freaks don't know a thing about the religion they follow. They read not even half the book, speculate a bit, then act like they know it all. It says in the Bible plain as day that no one can predict the rapture. And it's not one of those obscure verses either, people talk about it often. I don't see why it's ignored.

I'm pretty sure when the Sun swells up to a red giant, boils off the oceans, and strips off the atmosphere, leaving the planet an uninhabitable lump of rock… THATS when the world will come to an end… About 5 billion years from now.

Maybe not 5 billion, but a damn long time!

The last estimate I saw puts the Sun at approximately 5 Billion years old right now- middle aged for this type of yellow star. Spectrographic comparisons with other similar stars suggests that the Sun will continue on like this for another 5 billion years, until the Helium ash at its core begins to poison the fusion reactions there. When that happens, more complex, even more energetic reactions will begin to take place with far greater frequency than they do now. The core temperature will quickly skyrocket, and the resulting increase in pressures will counteract the coercive forces of gravity, causing the Sun to swell to several hundred times its current size. The inner planets will be vaporized- consumed by the solar furnace. Earth is far enough away that we wont be melted- much. But the blue planet will pretty much be toast. After the sun throws off the heavier elements and shrinks down to a white dwarf, temps on Earth will return to life sustaining range- assuming the atmosphere hasn't been stripped off, which it probably would be. Then we'll be orbiting a white dwarf- the geriatric type star, until it slowly goes dark, emitting an occasional burst of Gamma rays to kill anything in its vicinity.

I'm a Christian, but I'm a tolerent one. I hate when so-called "Christians" cherry-pick from the bible for personal gain. And no, I didn't beleive Rapture would come on Saturday, the bible says no-one can predict it. How convenint that everybody ignores that part.
