So about that second Silent Hill Movie....

FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU....
Dear America.
Please stop taking my subtle, claustrophobic, suspenseful horror and turning it into a fanservicy action movie with shoe-horned love interest.

(Okay okay, that last stab was partially at Homecoming)
Though its been mentioned in the periphery as of late I have sort of been ignoring it. I was secretly hoping that no..they wouldn't do any more harm to one of my favorite series. But today I decided to finally crack open that book and read the details of this horror.
Now first I will just give my thoughts on the first movie: Mediocre is what I would say. A Mediocre horror action movie under the guise of Silent Hill.
Now back to to this sequel. This time they are tackling Silent Hill 3 (my fav of the entire series so its a double DX for me) and it starts out with Harry and Heather on the run, trying to stay one step ahead of dangerous forces she doesn't quite understand and she is plagued by nightmares. So right off the bat we have the characters (I guess mostly Harry?) knowing shit has gone poo poo and are constantly fleeing. Also that main woman from the first film (named Rose after I decided to look it up) is also in this movie but I'm not sure how she fits in, in any way. Also Harry goes missing so that prompts Heather to do shit and go to Silent hill or some such.
So we don't have them ever settled in a normal life and then shit starts going down, with the death of her father prompting her to go to Silent Hill to discover the truth. Instead the town and the order seem to really organized and persistent this time around, chasing them for 17 years instead of going for that detective business. I should also mention that Detective Douglas is not in this movie.
Also on a side note, Pyramid head is set to be in this movie. I mean it wouldn't be an American Silent Hill production without stuffing him in there somewhere. So what does he do this time around? Well from the looks of things he is taking over for Valtiel (I mean who needs Silent Hills version of a governing angel that is actually a part of The Orders religion and thus has context to be there...lets just jam pyramid head in there.)
But I could pry let a lot of things slide and maybe somewhat enjoy the movie. But its the final thing that I have gleaned that has sealed this movies fate and that is the portrayal of Vincent. Now Vincent is without a doubt one of the best characters in Silent Hill. He was Smug and Manipulative. Making cruel jokes and always just giving us a taste of his knowledge though he obviously knew much more. Using others to do his dirty work and yet still technically he was on your side, giving you hints on how to prevent the birth of god since to him, it wouldn't be 'convenient.'
I refuse to believe that this: http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/_.....b5/Vincent.jpg
and this: http://images.wikia.com/silent/imag.....centCarter.jpg
are suppose to be even slightly the same character.
So Vincent seems like he will be getting more screen-time, helping Heather more (I guess in replacement for Douglas not being around). But its the fact that its hinted that they...that Heather and Vincent... are pry going to end up as a couple at the end of the movie. AEHISIDHGIEJ...WHAT! How do you look at this man and see love interest. How do you take a character that the protagonist hates and turn it around....and WHY D: WHY AMERICAN SILENT HILL MOVIE WRITERS, WHY YOU HAVE TO SHOE-HORN LOVE INTEREST INTO THIS. TT_TT
Now since the movie is not out yet, these things could turn out to be wrong, I'm gonna have to wait and see. You will pry hear my rant and/or review when I do decide to go see it (whenever its suppose to come out in theaters). Also the movie is scheduled to be in 3D...Fuck. (Sorry but I hate 3D movies, they give me a headache)
Though I will say one thing. Robbie the Rabbit stuffed toys were on the set of the movie. If this movie spawns a line of buyable plush Robbies... I will mark it as one good thing making a sequel did. (I will buy the fuck out of that!)
TL;DR
Silent Hill movie sequel following SH3 and they are already fucking shit up.

FA+

How can they do Silent Hill 3 with the way then ended the first Silent Hill Movie?
That doesn't.
I.
RGH.
Silent Hill 2 would have been the best for a movie from the start, I think, since it could stand alone...
... At least the Shadow of The Colossus Movie (written by the wonderful minds behind Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li) seems like it's dead in the water...
And the collosi are secretly EVIL!
And then you stab dormin and everyone goes home happy.
That's totally how the game went, right? =P
I am looking very much forward to the sequel, especially with Sean Bean (one of my favorite actors) and Pyramid Head himself coming back. I hope PH gets more screen time around, because I find him so damn cool. Considering how great I found the first one to be, I have high hopes for this one as well.
However, I do understand your frustration, due to the Resident evil movies. I like the games, and I do like the movies...but dang, if I don't get angry at Alice stealing all the best moments from the characters who actually show up in the games, and having to one-up them every chance she gets. She's little more then a god-mode sue, and I hope they kill her off in the next film. Preferably by Wesker tearing her spine out and chucking her into lava.
But I can concede that the movies and games can indeed exist as separate entities and be enjoyed just like in your example of the lord of the rings. I mean, I may complain about the SH movie a bunch but I still enjoyed it for what it was (I mean they changed enough of the base plot around that I could accept that. I'm just a bit confused how they are going to follow up the previous movies ending with this one, considering the way they are pitching it...its going to be hard to make some coherence since they seem to want it to be a continuation.) I mean there are chances I will still enjoy this movie and I will pry forgive and let slide a bunch of things...but it really comes down to whats going on with Vincent. Knowing how he acts in the games...the only thing that irks me is their need to make him a love interest, its something so out of character, its like if they gave Pyramid Head a pink dress.
And I won't get into the Resident Evil Movies...at all. I enjoyed the first one and then it just went downhill from there. (aka I think there garbage)
I just realized a ton of that was incoherent rambling, sorry about that. A bit out of it tonight XD
I liked the first Silent Hill movie a lot (got the dvd), but then again, I never played any of the games before.
>.<
Hope they don't mess up the sequel too badly for you!
But really I let a lot of things slide with the first movie and I will pry let a lot of things slide with this movie as well. The Vincent thing though....that I will not let slide. (and whoever is playing Claudia...I really hope they give her no eyebrows, that would make my day XD)
At least downpour doesn't look absolutely terrible. The E3 teaser has me worried, but it still looks ok. Then again, I was super worried about Shattered Memories and it ended up being my favorite.
At least the Silent Hill series had great atmosphere and story. The Resident Evil story is like if a 10 year old was asked to direct a movie.
