I am in my apartment (Also computer question)

General
First of all, I am in my apartment now. Been here since around, maybe 4 or 5pm. Getting stuff all figured out still, the gaming center being the most important for me. XD I may need to buy one or two of those AV cable select tools and maybe chain them together as the one I have, one of them is not working that well (unless I tape it to the thing).
All in all, things are going good so far.
I was cleaning out one of these container thingies I had and realized that this one box I had that looked like a controller box was in fact a box that had a couple of "Naughty" things inside them (That I have not yet really had a chance to use.) Needless to say, knowing my mom and her nosiness, I had to find a better hiding spot for it. Luckily, I doubt she will check the grey footlocker thing I have. Nor do I think she will check the Grand Theft Auto 4 Limeted Edition box which was that bank safety deposit box. Needless to say, I crammed Mr 12 INch Purple Flamer inside the thing, as well as this other toy that I basically screw as well as a tube of lube. XD So, needless to say, I think I am okay, if not overly paranoid. XD And, if that was too much info for ya, well, sorry. XD ^_^;

And now unto the Computer question.
I have been noticing at times that even when I am not doing anything, be it all programs are closed & etc, it seems as though despite having say, 8-10GB of free space on my hard drive, and not doing anything (Or sometimes simply surfing the web) I get an annoying message saying I am running out of disk space.
Other times, I may be downloading torrent stuff (but that is for an external hard drive 95% of the time.
So, my question to those with more computer knoweldge then I have, do any of you have any idea what could be causing this unexplained filling of free space on my computer?
I have Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1.
Any help that can be offered would be wonderful. Thanks in advance. I hope everyone is doing well ok?

FA+

Be it C or what ever. Then click on Properties then click on Disk Clean up Tab.
Then you will see a window that will show you how much programs and Files are being used.
You may need to click on the Box's next to the items. Then go at the bottom and click on OK.
This should free up some of the Hard Drive. Hope this helps.
