The King of thieves character from the film is actually not from the tale of the forty thieves, but rather based off the older tale of Autolycus. Technically Autolycus was not of noble birth and thus not a king. The name King of thieves is derived from the fact that he was the best of them, in the same such way a boxer may be referred to as a ring king.
Thus Aladdin was only allowed to marry due to the sultan revoking the necessity of noble birth, (though this is in contradiction to the original story of Aladdin as the original Aladdin is married to a poor woman, but he later assumes the throne after the death of his step father, being that Aladdin is the closest living relative). The two films have no actually connection as the real Aladdin is Chinese, the thieves are Arabian, and the King of thieves is Grecian.

If you aren't confused yet, here's one more fact. All those stories are compiled together in one book, (1001 nights) written by a Persian.
