Dumb question, but the easiest way to find out is to ask. Is there something specific you should do when setting up a website to make sure is can be found easily in common search engines such as google?
I'm setting up a basic page for my friend, and it's the first time it's been actually necessary for me to make something searchable.

The one way to really guarantee you'll come up in the first 1-2 pages is to pay the search engine an advertising or search fee, then people will see you on the high end for sure.
Other than that, spiders will find words and phrases in the textual portion of your content and you'll show up anyway. F'rinstance, someone searching for "fur coats" will eventually pull your site up because of the use of the word "fur".
