I thought Pixar only did CGI animation...

they had traditional animation foundations.
and if I recall correctly, they have a good amount of traditional animators that work there

also, the short that got shown before Toy Story Three, it's overlay wasn't CGI

Even so, all their storyboarding is traditional - this cute little film was essentially an animated storyboard, style-wise. :3

Oh my goodness that was precious...I'm hoping to get into animation but I'm nervous because it's all gone to CGI it seems...I had no idea traditional was still running around. I'd much rather be a traditional animator but people tell me it's a rare chance now-days that I'd be able to get into it because everything has gone into computer graphics.

this is only from observation.. but I'm almost sure CGI has a traditional base and most schools teach both, but I could be wrong

Oh I think it does, you're right, but I don't see many movies coming out anymore that are purely traditional. I've been told even cartoons are a rare thing to get into... It's a bit discouraging but I don't want to stop there. I don't want to give up on that until I know for sure that It is indeed something that I will not be able to get into.

I used to be very attracted to the idea of being a storyboard artist, but then I realize most of the time storyboard artists do both of the work. The simple traditional, and cgi. I don't have a problem with doing cgi, but, it's not something I know how to do, and all of the schools I've been to so far are freaking terrible for art. And I just dont have the money to run off to california to go to school. :/
