Baby Crow
I've been living a goth kid's dream for the past week, nursing a baby crow back to health. He was found outside my mother's work, most likely blown out of his nest by the storms. He's still got pinfeathers, and crows are one of the longest nesting babies, so he's still very young (despite being larger than a cockatiel already!)
His leg was injured, possibly his breast bone, probably in the fall and he was being eaten alive by ants when they found him. They got one of his eyes, his legs, even the inside of his mouth. He was chewed up bad. My mom was sure he was dead that first night, but not this little bird. He's recovering really well. Just a few days ago he started making noises, and finally started asking for food and cooperating, so we didn't have to force feed him. His eye healed up and we removed the scab, so he can see out of it. Right now, we're fighting a serious infection in his legs and joints, most likely a combination of the injuries, the ant poison, and sitting back on them for several days, getting into the poop and whatnot. For a while, he wasn't putting any weight on one leg, he just flopped sideways. He reminded me of a proto drake because he uses his wings to move around. But he can stand on both of them again, even hobble around, and despite the pain of the infection, he rather insists on doing it.
I tell you what, there's a reason they chose Crows for those movies. This little bird has been through hell and back and he's damn resilient. I named him Kyo, after one of my favorite people ever. <3
