V.D.O.'s F.A.Q.'s (Last updated 2011 12 03)
Well, what do you know- run a Livestream for a while, and you suddenly start getting asked all sorts of questions. I should probably have done this ages ago, but better late than never, unless you are talking about bad things, in which case never is definitely the nicer choice. I know I must've missed a bunch of frequent queries, here, so if you wanna know more about me, just go ahead and ask! What're you afraid of, that I'm gonna bite you or something?
Hm. Between the saberteefs and bone-breaking 'yena bite, that's actually a decent concern.
OH WELL!!
COMMISSIONS, ETC.:
Q: Do you take commissions?
A: No, sorry, and don't expect that to change any time soon. There's a number of reasons, ranging from "I'm not tight for cash in any way," to "I'm still having trouble getting stuff I WANT to write, written," to "dunwanna."
On the plus side, if you catch a story from my livestreams, those are free.
Q: Do you do trades?
A: No, sorry, for mostly similar reasons to not taking commissions.
Q: Do you accept gifts?
A:NO WAY WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT FREE STUFF THAT IS CRAZY Yes. Actually... As weird as this is... Please ask me first? I've realized I'm kinda derp like this <_<
Q: Do you, in ANY way, REQUIRE gifts?
A: No.
Q: Do you give gifts/do requests?
A: Yes, after my fashion. Wait for a livestream with a theme close to your desired topic, show up, suggest it, and hope you get picked. That's as close as it gets, right now, I'm afraid.
CHARACTERS:
Q: Can I use one of your characters?
A: Nothing's stopping you. I would like to request, however, that you notify me (so I can enjoy it too) and try to stick to the character's... Well... Their character. If you REALLY want to use one in a way they normally would not accept (Ex. "I want Sunny to shrink something!"), feel entirely free to create your own character suspiciously similar to mine. Just mention it isn't actually supposed to be my character, if you would. Also, please see the "Gifts" section.
Q: Where can I learn more about your characters?
A: Reading stories that they show up in is good. On various occasions, I will livestream a Q&A session with my OC's- if one is coming up, try to get in and ask. If you can't make it, or one isn't scheduled soon, just ask me about them through one of the usual contact methods mentioned further down.
Prior OC Q&A's: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5827181/ ; http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6307422/
Q: Can I/one of my characters hook up with you/one of your characters permanently?
A: I've actually been asked this multiple times (particularly with Sunny!), and it's been a bit of a surprise to me. The answer is almost certainly going to be no, however. Most of my characters either aren't looking, or the fact that they're looking is an important part of their character.
Q: Can I use one of the characters you wrote about who does NOT belong to you?
A: Why are you asking me? Ask the owner!
Q: You were writing about my character in a stream, but you got their personality/appearance/powers/etc. all wrong!
A: I sincerely apologize. If I am writing a story with someone's OC's, I REALLY prefer to have them present and watching to avoid this exact situation. If that isn't possible, and you find out after the fact, let me know and I can fix it.
Q: You wrote me a story with one of my characters/based on my artwork. Can I post it in my own gallery?
A: Yes, you may, definitely.
LIVESTREAMS:
Q: What is YOUR livestream?
A: http://www.livestream.com/VDOPlus
Q: What IS your livestream?
A: Using magic secret technology (i.e. the Procaster software included free with a Livestream account), I capture a portion of my screen conveniently positioned to display words I type at the behest of demanding voices in my head and less-demanding voices in the chatbox.
A: ... What?
Q: Imagine a live Youtube video, except instead of cats or Rick Astley it's me typing words on a keyboard. There's a chat window for you to talk with me and/or anyone else watching.
Q: Why did you start Livestreaming?
A: I'd watched artists do it before, and had fun, but then I saw
danath streaming short stories and was hooked on the idea. It's easy, fun for all, and productive.
Q: Is it harder to write with an audience?
A: I post stuff up when done anyway, so I'll ALWAYS have the audience. This one is just there to watch the entire process. And, no, I find it easier to write with friendly faces breathing down my neck, for some reason.
Q: I saw you finish a livestream, but the story isn't up yet!
A: Unless I have died before I had a chance (unlikely), you should probably just be a bit more patient. I've started waiting about one week after a stream to post the results, since it takes time to convert them into FA's .txt format for readability, and they often end late at night.
Q: How can I know when you livestream?
A: I post a journal once a week on Sundays which lists the times I will stream that week. If something comes up, I will put a note in the name of that journal (UPDATED! or something like that) to warn people of the change. All times listed will be in EST (U.S. East coast/New York time), and are subject to vary and/or change without notice. HOWEVER: Lately I have been having trouble finding time to stream and haven't done so in literally months, so please don't worry about why you haven't seen any lately!
Q: I have an idea for an upcoming stream, but I won't be around while you're streaming! Can I send you the idea in advance?
A: Well, yes, you definitely can... But I'm much less likely to write a story for someone if they aren't available when I need to ask them about what they want (especially if I don't have a really good idea from LOTS of previous experiences with them), Still, you might bring something to my mind. No promises, either way.
Q: I was watching you in the stream, and you spelled a word wrong!
A: Notify me, PLEASE. I may have been inventing a neat new word (or a dumb one), but more often than not I'm simply derping out. I do not bite advice-givers! Except the ones who are into that kind of thing!
Q: Can I have sex in the chatbox while you livestream?
A: wut
Uh, I mean, depends. As long as it's not getting disruptive, I probably won't care. However, if other people in the stream start complaining, I will request that you take the RP'ing to another medium. Odds are, my stream chatbox will NOT be an ideal place for intensive RPing, though.
TOPICS:
Q: Are there any topics I can suggest for a guaranteed spot?
A: No. Some topics (*COUGHGROWTHCOUGH*) are certainly more likely than others to inspire me, but even I get surprised by what gets my muse moving sometimes. Even if it's not my normal bag of tricks, you might still get a story.
Q: Are there any topics you will NOT do?
A: Yes. I don't disagree with writing stories about almost ANY subject from a moral standpoint, but some topics pretty much kill my mood to do anything but sigh despondently and/or hunt for brain bleach. In no particular order, they include (but may not be limited to): prominent/throbbing veins, watersports, scat, anal play, sexual abuse of a creature with an intellectual capacity of or less than that of a young adult.
Q: Wait, does that mean you won't do mansex?
A: Not traditional mansex, but besides that I have no overall objections to writing gay porn of either gender. You can request snuggling or frotting or handjobs and so on. Just don't expect to see cuddlemen as often as lesbians.
Q: I want to keep my hyperphilia/macrophilia/dendrophilia/whatever a secret from prying, judgmental eyes, but I also want to suggest a story! What should I do?
A: In that case, probably search for other authors in the fandom (there's plenty, trust me). If I write a story, I would like to be able to post it in my gallery for others to enjoy, even if it's stuff I don't enjoy myself. If you just wanna make a surprise gift for someone or something, though, we may be able to work it out... Maybe.
Q: Why do you keep writing about X?
A: Probably because I LOVE 'X' and/or because people in my streams LOVE telling me to write 'X.' If 'X' bothers you, I do make a serious effort to list what sort of topics will be covered in every story I post. If the content warnings or keywords list 'X,' please do not read nor explain to me why 'X' is not your favorite thing and move on to 'Y.'
What? You hate 'Y?' GOD, you can be SO picky.
Q: You wrote about 'Z' once before, but now you say you aren't a fan of 'Z?!' I'M SO CONFUSED!
A: I will write about topics I do not enjoy, or even dislike (excluding the major no-no topics listed earlier). Maybe for practice, maybe for a friend, maybe because it was part of a request whose other aspects I dearly loved. So don't decide against trying to give me ideas just because it involves a topic I don't normally like!
CONTACT:
Q: How should I contact you?
A: If I'm Livestreaming, post something in the chat. If I'm not, post a shout or send me an FA private message.
Q: Do you have an email? Do you use messengers?
A: I have email, yes, and I have a couple friends I talk to over messenger, but very few. Unless I already know you fairly well, I almost certainly would prefer to communicate by PM/Shout/Reply/Livestream chat.
Q: Can we RP?
A: Probably not. You may be able to catch me on the BigFurs IRC, but even that is pretty iffy. Besides which, I am not very comfortable with one-on-one RPs, especially sexual ones.
Q: Can you teach me how to write better?
A: Practice, study others' (preferably GOOD others') writing, learn the language and its nuances, and make sure you're actually ENJOYING what you're writing.
OTHER:
Q: Why did you respond to a comment/submission I made like a month after the fact?
A: Because my time management skills are an epic disaster and it seriously takes me that long to reply to stuff sometimes! Please don't take it personally, I'm this horrible to EVERYONE, even friends!
PERSONAL:
Q: Are you a democrat, or a republican?
A: Neither. I'm with the giant robot party.
Q: Are your initials really "V.D.O.?"
A: No. V.D.O. stands for Vesper Defense Outpost. ... Don't ask.
Hm. Between the saberteefs and bone-breaking 'yena bite, that's actually a decent concern.
OH WELL!!

I'm terrible at picking names, by the way.
By the way, a few things:
1. May I share ideas with you? I like to pass them along in case others may get use out of them.
2. Do you still stream often? And how will we know the times and theme ahead of time?
2: Unfortunately, I haven't managed a stream in what is apparently over half a year at this point. I've made a few lifestyle changes which, although very helpful to my life in the real world, have drastically cut into my time and freedom to do story streams. I do want to start them back up again, I'm just not sure when I'll have the chance. When I have streams, I will announce them in advance, probably the weekend before the stream, via a journal for that purpose.
1: One of the results of this is that I have more story ideas than I have time and energy to write, so I don't think I'd be able to give your ideas proper consideration at the moment, sorry! If you don't mind holding on to them, though, I'd be glad to hear them when/if I can start streaming again.
Thank you for the interest!
As for my ideas, it's okay if you do not use them. They may inspire your own ideas, or you can pass them along to someone else.
By the way, what do you think about hyper stories that imply past growth? I ask because I've done a few. Mostly hyper balls, though.
Well, I've done a few stories where my guy has grown already, and has to deal with the consequences. Most of the tales are short, but some imply future growth.
