No more dragoroo fursuit for a while
Fursuit head is in the trash. Mold attacked it.
This happened before. A few spots of mold appeared in the mouth, which was made of crushed velvet, an almost perfect breeding ground.
I had forgotten to clean it and that's what happened after a few weeks.
Anyway, I scrubbed the spots away and cleaned the entire area, then I sprayed it with the antimicrobial Febreeze, and left it in the sun to bleach the remaining mold and spores dead.
Everything was fine after that, no prob.
This time, however, I guess I had forgotten to clean it and left it for MONTHS, since I just hadn't worn it in so long..
I swear I remembered to clean it, but arguing that is pointless.
The entire mouth was filled with mold.
Gray fuzz and orange puffs and yellow wisps FUCKING EVERYWHERE.
I was disgusted. I could barely handle it the first time, being a total Mycophobe.
This time it was just too damn much.
It had gotten into every crevice, every single nook and cranny.
I lost two teeth through it's lifetime, and the holes became pockets of pure mold.
Fuck it. I'm not even touching it.
I threw it in the garbage.
It had already been stained the first time by mold, this time it would be unfixable, and I will not risk putting on a head which was once infested with mold even if all the crushed velvet lining and all the other fabric was replaced.
On the bright side, an entire two (2) people offered to make me fursuit heads of their own design for little to no cost.
(Though one of them ceased to be my friend, but that's another story.)
I'm not completely leaning on such an offer, since it is so mighty generous.
But, it gives me an excuse to finally try to make my own.
That'll be a nice big project with which I can experiment and use my time productively.
Also, since I'm going to UCLA, I won't really be needing it.
While I'm there, I'll still try to attend the PS when I can.
Yeah.
EDIT: I THOROUGHLY inspected the rest of my fursuit pieces, and other than the microscopic mold spores, they are all clean. After the PS today, I will be airing them out and leaving them in the sun as well.

FA+

But that sounds nasty...
I can help with foam carving if you like! Its the only part I am good at.. and eyes I am proud of my bombass eyes
This is pretty much the number one reason I encourage people to store their heads in the open, or on a shelf in the closet type of space. The box stays cramped and allows any moisture, including moisture from sprays to prevent mold, to allow mold to grow. I only personally have any items inside my fursuit box, when I'm going to and from events, all other items are stored openly.
Also, I'm not trying to really excuse myself here, but it's in that box to keep it out of my sister's sight. She's always threatening it.
A foam head inside of it, will do nothing other than to keep its shape. It doesn't effect the ability to keep the head dry.
Actually your best bet, is to invest in a fan. I swear by these ones they have at Target, it's a 4" mini desk fan, made by their Room Essentials brand. They're a wire/metal base, and are usually no more than $6 or so (they also come in lots of colors lol), they do have to be plugged in tho, they're not battery powered. After anything, I take it out, even sometimes if I'm too lazy to spray anything in my head, and set it up on the fan, at least overnight. I use the fan also after spraying it down, to make sure all the stuff dries inside. This fan is small enough to fit up inside the head, and won't get too hot to cause any damage.
