No problem. When I buy soda from the store, it's either in cans stacked in a box or a huge bottle. Though I am more likely to purchase the huge bottles due to them being cheaper than the pack of cans. Any six-pack rings I happen to somehow find around the house I cut apart with scissors.

If you properly recycle six-pack rings, it doesn't matter if you cut them up.

I always do. Sadly, I'm the only one in my household who thinks to do so.

Granted, we don't get many things that have those six-pack rings in the first place, but still, I wish I wasn't the only one who remembered to cut 'em up.
