I've never had a hotel room that was less then $70

And everyone is excited because everyone will be there. They'll probably spent most of the time hanging out with people they know and not actually doing anything con related. except hit the dealers den or artist alley.

I guess you've never stayed at a Motel 6 or Super 8 then. And no offense, but the last time I went in 06, I could barely find anyone, there were too many people about.

I stayed in a super 8 for fau, it was $72 which was cheaper then the $119 for the hotel it was in.

No offense, but what do you mean by 'horribly run'? It seems to be run about the same as any other con I've ever been to.

Further Confusion is run a lot better than Anthrocon.

So is RCFM, MFM, and most other smaller cons.

Well, for one, when they have to bring in outside security people who aren't even furry, that should tell you one thing. Security should be low key and out of sight, not in your face like the Dorsai always were when I went in 02, 03, 04, and 06.

Personally I wouldn't touch AC with a 1 mile pole. Smaller cons are ok but AC is way too many furries for me to handle

Well i never attend ny cons anyway so...

I try to avoid any con over about 1250-1500.... after a certain number cons suffer from 'con bloat.' Not hating' on AC, I just decide to give smaller cons my patronage and coin. ^^

The only reason I do not go to AC is the fact it is just so damn big and the last time I was there it was exhausting to get around and I felt very lost in the sea of people. I was also not overly impressed with the ritzy hotel and snobby staff. Not been back since and feel little regret over cutting it from my con list, even if it would be nice to see my friends that attend.

Been to MFF once and have tried to get back, but things keep getting in the way. Due to the timing and expense of that con, I think I just need to stop worrying about trying to make it and move on. Right now the two cons I have been going to are RF, a local medium size con that is very affordable, and FWA and while that is a bit pricey for me to get to, I just love that con so much I do not care.

Going to be attending a very small local con this year, which is really just a weekend camp out, and next year am thinking of hitting FC.

I understand what you're saying about not enjoying large cons-- to each their own, and I enjoy smaller conventions myself. As for expensive hotel rooms though, since even MFM ($100/night) and RCFM ($109/night) can't come close to the $69/night you're looking for, It's unlikely that cons like AC, MFF, or FC that need large facilities can find a hotel that can match that price point. For what it's worth all these cons have Motel 6's and Super 8's within a few miles of the con, though.
