i've seen this happen...alot!
i'm gonna use myself as the dummy >:3
so here I am, just posted gift art for an awesome artist. a few mins later the artist shows up. she/he gets super excited and favs it (duh) and stupid ol' me goes to the artist's page and thanks him/her for the watch! stupid right!? :D
the dummy should have known that the artist was gonna fav it anyway, it's gift art lol xD
