Yeah- that write-up about every circumcision article ever is truly a thing of beauty. It's amazing how people use the same uninformed arguments time and time again to 'refute' their point of view. It's more like they're reassuring themselves, rather than convincing others, because a dose of reality would just turn their world upside down and their comfortable lives would be shattered. I don't get the stupid debates about it myself. I was never circumcised and I have never had any problems at all.

If I had a son instead of daughters, I wouldn't of had him circumcised. My husband is Lithuanian and not circumcised, and I definitely prefer foreskin > non-foreskin. If we haven't evolved to not have foreskin yet, apparently its not a bad thing for us to have ("us" as in human beings)

Given that the circumcision occurrence in Lithuania is 0.19% he would have no reason to even consider doing it ;o but that's hte other side of it, for us where it is uncommon we may not think about the fact that it is dangerous, and that it happens - it could happen to his kid, basically. I've never understood the argument for circumcisions. being someone who was never circumcised I just have to say that I can't imagine why any man would want to be. its there to protect some very sensitive skin and when I hear people talk about using lube for masturbation, I shiver, as for being uncut, I don't need it. I can only imagine how uncomfortable it must be.

Been around the world and you should see how odd it is to have it done, and in some cultures its something to be proud of.
I know when I lived in Japan the guys would flaunt off their circ penises because it "makes you a man" and "desirable by ladies" in which it does there. Heck the foreskin is known to them as "barbaric" so in sauna's they pull it up so it isnt seen, and considered respectful.

Honestly if someone wants to lop off bits of their own dick I saw MORE POWER TO THEM it's when it's inflicted on infants that it bothers me so much. And the amount of senselessly callous things people will say is staggering and disheartening. People who I KNOW who are all up on lots of people's rights issues when it comes to WOMEN but the second foreskin comes up and men are just being "whiny" and "it's just a piece of skin."

How about let's just not touch any baby's genitals unless medically necessary. How about that. Let's just stop touching babies penises and vaginas and putting any sort of sharpened metal to them when nature does not explicitly call for the need.

Some have argued babies actually are traumatized and remember the pain. I don't remember the article/statistic, but mutilated baby boys did seem to behave differently than intact ones, at first they wont breastfeed and later they have a different pain response and are more fussy.

"Medically necessary" CAN be a slippery slope, but it doesn't have to be. I am thinking more along the lines of males with issues with their foreskin - I knew a fellow from the UK, non-Jewish so no faith-based-auto-cutting, and he had to be circumcised because his foreskin didn't pull back right, or was too short - I don't remember exactly, it was a number of years ago, but it was a fairly legitimate reason for such a surgery, as it was causing actual physical issues with the body. I think that doesn't have to bleed over to how intersexed people are treated, but I can definitely see what you mean there - it's very easy to go from justifying one thing, to justifying another with similar logic. Luckily, some of the more ridiculous statements about circumcision just don't really hold up when compared to actual sound physical reasons - i.e., "Timmy might get made fun of in the locker room if the other boys see his willy!" [REAL REASON I HAVE HEARD.] vs. "The penis is not functioning properly and is causing pain because of it." Not that that matters /now/ of course, since medical reasons AGAINST it are aplenty and it is still performed.

Also, let me go on record as saying that it SUCKS to like foreskin in the US! Ahhh! I had to import the one foreskin I had ever seen [he was Dutch, I'm sure he'd like to see me having said this! lol].

It's not necessary to circumcise for that, it's just been the "accepted fix" instead of a less invasive procedure.
Yeah, I don't have anything else to add... I think perceived social reasons like the locker room thing (or traditional reasons) overpower scientific facts for quite a lot of parents.

Well, I didn't personally see EVERY penis where I was living, so I can't say for certain they were 100% circumcised as a whole. ;)

It's amazing how many people are circumcised in the US. I remember a friend of mine telling me about how he was in a room full of people in their late 20s/early 30s at a con a while back, and ONE of them was uncut. Everyone else was like "Wow...I've never seen an uncut penis" and he ended up dropping trow and letting everyone look. XD It was silly and sad at the same time because of the sheer number of (mostly-gay) dudes who had never seen an uncut penis.

That is INSANE.. also, messed up. Mutilation, the new normal! God, I'm glad I live in a country where I've never seen a circumcised penis IRL.
