Transformers 3 (SPOILERS AHOY!)

"..."
I liked Transformers three much better than Revenge of the Fallen and was pleasantly surprised by how good it actually is. Then again I went into it with really low expectations. Since I can't decide whether or not it was a good movie, I'm going to make a list of things I liked and things I hated and decide from there:
Also, I saw it in 2D because 3D is a huge waste of money, besides I already have to wear glasses, why would I want to go to a movie and wear another pair of glasses over my glasses.
Once again SPOILER warning
Things I liked:
The Character designs seemed a bit more varied this time around ie: I could actually tell the differences between the Decepticons, at least the important ones. I think soundwave suffers from generi-design but the others were at least recognizable
Shockwave was awesome
Lazerbeak was probably the best character in the film, but also the most horrifying, it's going to be years before I get "hello little girl, is your daddy home?" out of my nightmares.
Soundwave was pretty much a badass too and transformed into a Mercedes SLS, probably one of the most sinister looking cars on the road today.
The entire last hour of the film was pretty awesome except for one thing which I'll get to in a minute
Now a lot of people have complained about whats-her-face outwitting Megatron but it doesn't really bother me, and I liked Megatron shooting Sentinel Prime in the back, it fits his character, and harkens back to the old animated TF movie
Starscream's death: I was really torn up about this at first because the whole situation is just laughable, but then I thought back about the old cartoon, and Starscream was always kind of a bumbler, and what happened in the movie kind of just works.
Thing I didn't Like:
All of the main decepticons are killed by the end, I'm kind of torn on this because it gives the franchise no where to go.
The construction cables, enough said.
Ironhide's death: it's not the death that bothers me but the fact that it happens and everyone just kind of ignores it for the rest of the movie. According to cannon, Ironhide was in the military as it were even before Optimus, and if I remember correctly he even served as a sort of mentor to Optimus.
Finally, Optimus killing an unarmed and wounded Sentinel. This completely violates everything about Optimus Prime from the comics, tv show, and every thing else. Optimus Prime is supposed to be a "high-road" kind of character, and gunning down an unarmed foe that's on the verge of begging for his life is out of character. Also, don't get me started on the whole "we had to let the Decepticons attack Chicago and kill innocent people otherwise you wouldn't believe us" thing.
Overall I'd say the move was good, maybe even better than the first I'll probably give it a solid 8.5/10
It's not as good as it should have been, but it's probably as good as it could have been considering the franchise so far and the huge handicap inherent in being a Michael Bay film.
Until Next time...
