A tip: cliches work. Ever wondered why Avatar works so well even though Dances With Wolves contained the same storyline? Cliches people like, including story model itself. Same thing with the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings series: the cliches are popular (not so much during the first writing of LotR, thus J.R.R. Tolkien is a bit more original) and so they were popular. Not that you have to stick to certain cliches, but some of them work. What would work is taking a cliche you find, like the farmboy finding out he's some part of a legend, and flip it on its head. Example: I'm working with a new race of werewolves that are hated by the townspeople, but to change the cliches of the werewolves and the racism, I've explained why people hate these werewolves, and the personality of the werewolves has been changed. Not that you shouldn't avoid cliches, but some do work and that's why people come back to some stories even though what they contain is similar.

Probably a less effective example would be to make the farmboy look like he's going to save the world, only to turn around and try to destroy it by the end of the story.

Thank you for making that clear. I will take that into consideration Azarae. I just wanted my story to be 100% original, but that's impossible considering how many stories have been created over generations

You can still use cliches and make a story original.

True. Well, I'll keep in mind that cliches can be used, but need to be tweaked to the point it's no longer what it used to be.
