I've been catching up a bit on the replies to this journal and have begun to realize that I have fallen into a classic "No-win Scenario", ie, the discussion of politics. As with religion there seems to be no neutral ground on this topic.
However, people seem to have gotten the wrong idea about where I stand on the subject--I don't think that I'm a "Liberal knee-jerk reactionary", however, I AM a liberal. I place a great deal of importance on the rights (as well as the responsibilities) of the individual and freedom of choice.
I will admit to being an unabashed "Bush" hater! Well, OK, I don't "hate" him, but I do have a profound dislike for this egotistical, homophobic, sanctimonious, ignorant, bombastic, stubborn, provential and pin-headed asshole. He has misused the power of his office, cloaking his actions in secrecy, lies and blind patriotic propeganda. I know, I know--same old same-o... But I still think Bush has done more to undermine basic liberty and harmony in this country...hell, in the whole world, that any President in modern histroy...maybe in all time.
OTHRWISE, I tend to be fairly moderate in my political views. Common sense and human rights should trump any specific political agenda. Extreme conservatives and extreme liberals are the ones screwing everything up--we need a Moderate Party! They wouldn't stint on the military, they wouldn't mind a bit of socialism when it's for the greater good and they would be careful with money and would restructure the tax system! That would be lovely, wouldn't it?
Oh--one other thought. I also believe PROFOUNDLY in the separation of church and state! But more than that--I believe not only in freedom OF religion, but in freedom FROM religion! I honestly feel that the sooner religion goes away entirely, the better off the world will be!

but see, we the People are more interested i if our next prez is gonna be a chick or black.
Best point is something like the FCC. I swear twenty or so years ago, the reply to someone who had a problem with "bad language" or "offensive imagery" was: "Sorry you were offended, we'll strive to be sure that it doesn't happen again." Nothing really happened, but a response was given and everyone went on their merry way.
Nowadays it seems that my own entertainment is culled based on a very small percentage of people who decide that it's time to complain, and those complaints turning into huge fines to the industry for any kind of slip-up. So now my enjoyment is lessened because the companies have to live in fear of levied fines due to some selection of right-wing folks who had a problem, where the rest of the nation didn't care.
As for religion, i feel well armed and amazingly enlightened by Dawkins and Dan Dennet's handling of the fundamental problems assuming that Faith is a virtue. Religion is a MEME! :o yet a surprisingly robust one that has evolved. i think... if the analogy of a parasite holds... what would the retrovirus look like? what would the antibody look like? what shall replace it? secular reason for human solidarity. it is the reason we desire to be nice to each other, even when we can't think of any rational reason for it.
as for President... let it not be an old white guy again. all i ask.
At least when Clinton lied... nobody Died!~
(hugs)
ToRo
True... but the bottom line is... he was getting a piece in the White House. Big Deal!~
That being said...
Deathpuppy for president! :)
lol you might not want to be but you'd make a better candidate than most of the bozos out there xDD
remember Hitchikers guide to The Galaxy.
sounds familiar does'nt it?
then all the presidents still living could sit in the same room and all laugh at the new comander in chief, same as the last commander in chief, - we got fooled again! ((Derived from Baba-o'Riley))
I belong to a political party that cannot exist, truth in government and outlaw lobbying. ...!
anyway, who should care what other people think, even if that were to happen.
Say you have a child whos friend's parents let them go out and do meth all the time. Their parents think you are horrible because you won't let your child do it. Does this really make you the bad guy? Do you really have to prove to people like that that you are doing what's right?
I sure wouldn't think I would have to. Though I still don't understand what that had to do with what I said. ><;;;
as for the Meth scenario it is incorrect, i would ( if i had children, which i don't nor was i ever married) instead do meth at home in a resposible manner in able to show a right way to go about it. that is Meth cut last with Ether instead of unleaded gasoline. Then it is much nicer to your system.
eventually he or she would come to the same conclusion i did about any drug, including Marijauna, it only is costly, keeps you from actually having fun and only wastes your time! but i would not forbide my child from sampling, because it would not be free, that is embracing freedom and i would instead be guilty of acting the fascist, or a religious fanatic i so despise, acting out the role of my parents, who were "only thinking of my welfare".
but that cannot ever happen i don't have children. Even if i adopt i would not instigate feelings of being in a prison or in a socialistic state run the government, (ie NOT the USA) upon my child.
right ]:
Well, w/e. I got a message saying that you commented on me, so sorry for that confusion.
but I'm going to stop this now because I really hate pointless debate >>
I'd rather draw and paint pornographic fiction than live out a life of it.
By the way, what does the title of this journal entry mean?
But I am not a liberal. I am a Centerist. And I love that we don't have a party (and yet represent a huge number of folks according to surveys).
Power and money does things to folks. It makes them stingey and fearful and forces them to not listen to folks who don't tell them what they want to hear. Don't believe me? Ask Brittany Spears.
Or anyone else with lots of money/power.
They get stupid.
I heard the best thing on Studio 360 today, money doesn't make you stupid, in uncovers your stupidity. So, hopefully we can find folks who at least give lip service to the concerns of the average person. Even though, in truth, they don't amount to a hill of beans to anyone in power.
I would love to think it wasn't so. But that is only wishful thinking.
Do I think Hilary is going to be a bastion of goodness and charm? Don't make me laugh. Do I think Obama is really interested in 'the people' whoever that might be? Nope.
Do I think Edwards would bring in a time of great good cheer and prosperity? Nah-ah.
So why do we bother? Because I know that no matter who is in that house of white, that if the label says Democrat they'll try to LOOK like they give two figs for us. Not actually care, but do a better job of pretending to care.
But whoever gets in had better do a great job of re-establishing our civil rights and correcting a number of things or we're going to be living in a Police State. What am I saying -- sorry -- living in a WORSE Police State.
lol
Did you read this article?

And yeah, I just did. I find it disturbing by way of it's accuracy. And I have to admit, it brought some things to my attention again that I'd kinda' not been paying attention to as this is stuff that's taken place over the last 8 years.
I wonder what it's going to take to undo the damage that's been done, and set things right again. If they're ever going to be set right again.
We will soon see.
In any case, we're racing the edge of a razor. Democracies are not long-lived things. A few hundred years at best. So we are overdue.
I'm not sure I'm enough of a pessimist to paint how bleak things could get, and quick.
That is, in fact, my ultimate American thing, I'm optomistic. In the face of all the pain and loss and damage to my civil liberties, I just keep thinking things will get better.
(wonders what lemmings think about as the waves crash overhead)
I'm hoping that things start to turn around, but it's always my practice to hope for the best, and prepare for the worst. Thing is, how does one prepare for something like this? for a crashing economy, for the loss of liberty... Not something I've ever had to think about real hard. But hopefully not something any of us will have to think real hard about any time soon.
(as in a long exhelation of breath, not a laugh)
Expect the best, prepare for the worst.
