FurAffinity/Furocity merger? WHAT.
In case you haven't seen the announcement: http://forums.furaffinity.net/threa.....r-Announcement
I don't understand the reason for this. FurAffinity is, in my opinion, the top furry site on the web by a wide margin. Ever heard of the phrase, "Don't fix what isn't broken?" I understand Dragoneer and the other admins plan to introduce a completely new user interface at some point this summer, but this merger caught me off-guard. I like the UI pictured in Dragoneer's journal and I think that's a step in the right direction, but... merging with another site seems like a backward step to me. D:
And that leaves us all wondering what to expect. Obviously some rules are going to be changed because both sites have different policies -- for instance, FA has banned cub art, whereas Furocity doesn't allow bestiality. I'm perfectly happy with FA the way it is at the moment (although I'm still not partial to the no-cub rule due to my strong opposition to censorship), but some of FA's rules will likely change when the two sites merge. I signed up to FurAffinity, not Furocity. I don't want Furocity's rules. >__>
There's also the question of what will happen to both sites' admins and members. Dragoneer stated in the announcement that he and Daemonshyai (Furocity's owner) will co-own the newly-merged site. That also means we'll probably be administrated by a mixed assortment of admins from both sites. And what about members who have accounts with both sites? Or two different users sharing a common username between the sites? I can guarantee the transition won't go smoothly because some things will have to change at the users' expense. Usernames and submissions will be modified, etc.... I can't imagine members of either site enjoying that. :/
There's a reason I'm a member of FurAffinity, and not a member of Furocity. I think this merger is just going to cause too much trouble, leading to negative results. I fervently hope barely anything changes, because I love FA the way it is. <3
What do you guys think?

FA+

(although obviously I'm into neither IRL, I just like them in yiff)
Fuck censorship.
SoFurry is a good site for stories, but I think their userbase has decreased over the past couples years. Not seeing as many good stories as I used to. :/
The cub porn ban was because of a sponsor's threat to leave if it wasn't added to the AUP. That isn't up to Dragoneer or the admin team to convince people it's harmless, that's up to cub furs -- they have the burden of proof.
It would be interesting to see what happens with the rape artists, though. Not my cup of tea, but I know people who do like it. I'd be curious as to what extent "rape" goes. Would that involve prison scenes? master/slave?
The furry fandom has a bad enough rap. Let's not give Furaffinity that image too -- it's an art sharing and discussion site when used properly, not a porn hub.
And I wasn't too bothered about the cub porn ban, tbh, cos I used to be into it but by the time the ban rolled around it wasn't my cup of tea any more.
I understand your point, but I frequent this site. I prefer furs to humans in sexual arousal. I have a fetish I can NEVER find. Literally there's like 12 good pics and 3 good stories on this site that directly pertain to it, intentionally or not.
As a writer, I'm glad you prefer writing to art :) takes a very intelligent person.
And you've got me curious, what's the fetish?
*giggles* Thanks =3 I'm a writer too, only trouble is I've got more ideas than motivation. I swear half the stuff I've got up here *taps the side of my head* will never see the light of day XD
Same here! Tons of ideas, barely any motivation to actually follow through with them.
Food denial. In my own picky brain -- denying a shy hungry sub food until he drools for it. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1944445/ http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2977974/ http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3685073/ http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4338304/ (story)
Just gotta get into your story and characters is all :) Think hard about a single scene and you'll want to write just so you can get to that scene!
And I gotta say, food denial looks interesting =3 and I really liked the story ^_^
Mmm, yeah I know what you mean =3 I remember it used to be so easy, cos I would just really get into whatever I was writing. I still do, to an extent, but it's actually getting into writing a story that's the difficult bit. Sometimes it's just like old times though, like recently with my entry to Round 5 of
I usually prefer drawings, but I've read some stories that are more arousing than any drawing could be. It's also fun to write yiff stories, especially if you have a particularly well-thought out storyline. I've found I don't procrastinate writing the adult stories quite as much because the dirty stuff holds my interest longer. x3
Yeah, I know. If their sponsor hadn't pretty much forced them to ban cub art, I would've been pisssssed about it. -__- As it is, I understand why they did it. Money's more important than freedom, amirite?
I'm not a huge fan of rape drawings in the violently-unwilling sense, like when a character is in tears because a werewolf is about to screw their brains out or something. x3 But I think it can be artistically used -- like in the yiff story I'm currently writing. The character gets abducted and wakes up naked and bound in a hotel room, and he thinks he's about to be raped, but there's much more to it. All ends well for him. ;D The rape pics I'm more partial to are the ones where the character's uncomfortable with it, shy, whatever -- but not being forcefully dominated or anything like that. And whatever the case, it's still just a drawing.
It's still 75% porn. I don't log on for the clean art, there's DeviantART for that.
That's my problem with it... the rules changing. >__< I also didn't like them banning cub art here for the same friggin reason.
Yes, it's total BS. >< Like you said it's not FA's fault, but it was BS of their financial partner. D:<
"OMG A FUCKING DRAWING IS OFFENDING MEEEEEEEE!" Seriously? So it's totally okay for someone to draw an animal being horribly slaughtered (not to mention that happens IN REAL LIFE thousands of times a day), but CUB PORN IS JUST TOO HORRIBLE!
Though I also wouldn't call the slaughtered animal art horrible, because it's just a drawing. >__>
also does this mean that fa is gonan go like da and fuurocity and introduce payed accounts to get stupid little bonuses, screwing others over when they switch certain things or what?
this is just gonna end badly....you can tell alot of people are kinda pissed for the last few journels..already some artists are pulling out
FA and Furocity are both free sites, so I doubt any method of payment will be introduced unless absolutely necessary.
Its not a real merge. Its more of a co-ownership. They'll be sharing Admins and resources (coders etc.)
They also said they're going to refine rules but not really change any (they stated specifically about bestiality being alright in art form)
There's no data merge happening so just relax. It's going to be alright.
never heard of furocity, sounds more like "bigger site conquers the smaller"
Site Merger: Wut.
Rule Merger: OMFG No.
you can't just combine two different databases without conflicts like that
never even heard of furocity before this either
Well if things do go down hill, I guess we could go to Sofurry... xD but that's mostly stories I think.
"We we have not discussed this policy at this time. Currently, art is still art, but RL discussion of bestiality is still banned." - Dragoneer (posted today btw)

Feral stuff isn't just what I like, it's what I am, so hopefully that won't get ridiculously compared to the b-word at some point. Being that I'm not particularly interested in other furry sites I've seen, that'd be pretty much the end of my furry socializing. :3
FA's by far my favourite furry site. The only other one I ever browse is SoFurry (besides e621, but most of their art comes from FA anyways), and that's gone downhill, so I'd really be disappointed if FA followed the same path. :/ If they did ban bestiality, it'd just be feral-anthro pairings. I know how you feel, I'd be devastated if a bunch of feral stuff was banned. :0
I understand that child pornography is very bad, and damaging to the child, and in the case of child pornography the child is obviously a real life live victim.
But when someone DRAWS cub art, or even anime porn (where they all look like children/teens to me lmao) There is no real live victim being forced to do things, or being hurt in any way shape or form.
which begs the question, why ban something if there is real life victim?
Bestiality is exactly the same. While in real life it is banned in most places for the animal being abused/forced to do things or acts hey don't want to (or whatever... who knows what animals really want, we don't speak their languages) But in art there is NO victim!
No one is hurt by the art, and no one in real life is a victim from this art.
why ban it? seriously :|
I agree with the fire wolfy Fyrien! >:O
And that's why the cub ban annoys me. I know the FA admins couldn't help it, because one of their financial partners would've backed out if they didn't ban cub pr0nz, but still... No humans are directly affected, it's just ART. It's not even real. -__-
*cough* Did I almost rant there?
That said, I agree with FA's rule that talking about real-life bestiality is grounds for a ban, because that's illegal in most states. I'm sure talking about raping someone or molesting a child would also constitute a ban, because that's considerably more illegal. xD But I don't think artwork should be affected, because in the end, it's just a drawing of characters that don't even exist.
I agree with Huskyboy. Furocity has ~19,000 members. Furaffinity has upwards of a million. Bigger site conquers smaller.
CLUSTERFUCK.
In any case, it appears that 'merger' was a very poor word to use; the only thing that is actually happening is some of the administration from Furocity is coming over to Fur Affinity to help out with the day-to-day moderating. That's all!
