TBH, I don't know why people get so upset about remakes -- even crummy ones. :< At best it's just another hour & a half of entertainment, one way or the other, at the worst it just sucks and isn't any fun to watch. It's not like it's going to take anything away from the original? :<

It's hard to explain. I feel it does somehow cheapen the original. It certainly adds nothing to it. Of course there are the completely subjective reasons - the Evil Dead series something I love passionately for many reason, and I would enjoy to see another sequel continuing the franchise, passing the torch to a younger generation or whatever even. A "reboot" feels like it's saying the original was lacking, and this new one is so awesome and superior it's going to do the same thing, but better - it's arrogant. Imagine if someone went around re-drawing your pictures, or re-creating your art. Wouldn't feel very nice.

There ARE remakes I enjoy, so it's not a blanket dismissal of all remakes. It just to me it seems like, why waste the time, money and effort to remake something that was great in the first place? If something is going to be remade, why not remake a property that had a good idea, but failed in the execution?

There's also the insufferable new fans that enevietably come and the day you'll hear something about "EWWW who would want to watch _original_ I much prefer _93rd remake_! What a tweest!" [everyone in the future is M. Night Shymalan]

Uh,... The original WAS lacking and not that great, Sam basically remade it himself with Evil Dead 2.

That said, I'm not going to prejudge this. Sam not being involved isn't the end of things, since Bruce is involved, and Bruce IS to old to play a teenager going out into the woods. Also people need to stop judging writers one ONE script. God damn that annoys me more thing anything. Be the writer of just one movie people don't like, discounting many many other variables that can a good or decent script poor and can also make a bad script fun, and people suddenly think you can't write. At least look the writer up see if they've done anything else you've seen and see if its a one off thing or if they are actually bad. I'm not saying one thing or the other about Juno or its writer.

Right, Evil Dead 2. And we need another version why?

Because it would be nice to have a self contained version of the story that doesn't take decades to finally get wrapped up?

It will bring to light the existence of the original movies, and get people who haven't heard of them (they exist, I work with them) to watch the originals and share in the glory of the all mighty chin

On an unrelated note, they're making a sequel for The Thing. Yup.

I saw that, too *deep sigh* The Thing is a great movie, but it's not as personal to me as Evil Dead. Now see, The Thing is a perfect example of a remake that worked.
