FAget lives again !
Edit: 1.31b now, more fixes :)
Got FAget to work again, cleaned up the code and added some new features.
Get it before the said "summer update" comes. After, it'll probably need another major update !

FAget is an automated FA gallery retriever I started to write some time ago.
Still in VB6 yes, not willing to switch to .net for now. DLLs and controls are included with the executable.
No installation required. The exe should be clean, but be sure to run it through AV software before launching it.
Better be safe than sorry.
Here's the new stuff:
*Lots of small bugfixes, that "excess data for file" error should come up less often.
*Settings saving is less dumb now, dat files will now be compatible with next versions.
*Get favorites !
*Filter out general/mature/adult submissions
*"Shutdown PC" should work now.
Input, be it bug reports, questions, suggestions or threats are very welcome.

FA+

I'll add a "get sync list from watch list" option later.
There's also nothing specified about automated downloads in the TOS, so there should be no risks for accounts.
If it's downloading files with the same names than those already in the directory, then that's not normal.
I'll add a check on the filesize later, just to make sure. I can't add a CRC check since it would require downloading the file, THEN checking if it's already there.
Attempt to run faget.exe: MSWINSCK.OCX relatted error message.
Attempt to fix following website instructions, launching instsck.bat: DLLRegisterServer error code 0x8002801c, module mswnsck.dll failed to load.
At least I found out about a project aiming to let you download peoples FA galleries. It will save so much time once it works~
Did you run the .bat with as an admin ?
Was there a DLLRegisterServer error with mswinsck.ocx ?
Do you still get an error about mswinsck.ocx when launching faget.exe ?
To clarify my second line, 2 errors popped up, the first relating to an inabilty to load the .ocx due to the DLLRegisterServer error, the second relating to the .dll module not being found.
I do still recieve the error.
If you think it would help, I could provide screenshots of each problem I encountered.
If the .ocx got registered though, I don't know what's preventing faget.exe to run...
Try executing "regsvr32 mswinsck.ocx" by hand ?
%SYSTEMROOT%\system32\ should bring you to c:\windows\system32 yes (Some people dont have their OS on their C drive).
The .bat should have copied it there already :/
Maybe "regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\mswinsck.ocx" ? (Worked without the full path on XP).
Upon copy/pasting by hand (faget.exe still failed), I came across mswsock.dll Is it possible that this is the same/similar file, renamed for Vista?
Is instsck.bat meant to add any files other than MSWINSCK.OCX to the system32 folder? Could the fact that the filename and extension are in allcaps be the cause?
My apologies if the answers should be obvious, I'm not used to troubleshooting this sort of problem...
What's DllRegisterServer's saying exactly about the ocx ?
Do you have a 32 or 64 bit CPU ? Seems like the 64bit version of Vista needs the .ocx copied elsewhere.
"The module "mswinsck.ocx" was loaded, but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x8002801c."
"The module "mswinsck.dll" failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified file path or debug it tocheck for problems with the binary or .DLL files. The specified module could not be found." I would have been able to fix this one myself, but the specified file path was never, well, specified.
32 bit OS. As I said, there is a system32 folder, which is mostly filled by various .dll's
Some forums are saying that it's a privilege problem, and that it can be resolved by launching the command prompt as an admin, and then executing regsvr32 from it. So "cmd.exe" as an admin, and "regsvr32 mswinsck.ocx" in it.
Apparently, launching the .bat like that doesn't do anything special.
I'll have to find a way of doing this in a simpler way, I thought the .bat was enough...
Sorry I can't really find what's going on on my own, I only have XP and 7, and the ocx registers fine in both.
*boots up faget* And it works~
Dear lord, so this is why everyone hated Vista...
Anyway, my opinion of the program, now that Vista lets it fucking work: Really fucking useful. It would have been nice to be told the files were saved in the faget130 folder, but after the shit I went through to get it working, I'm just glad it works and will be grabbing the galleries of several artists.
Also, you now have some more info on how to make the program better, so I'm glad I was able to help. It'll probably be a good idea to put the command prompt solution on your website until you figure out why Vista doesn't like the .bat.
I may also attempt to put FAGet on my Win7 PC. If you don't have test data for that OS, I'll be happy to provide.
Vista seems to be a bit more suspicious than previous versions of Windows, not a bad thing but a bit annoying when the error messages aren't very clear. Ocx's are starting to get old...
There sould be some text under the "get unique user" box telling where the folders will be created, but for some reason it doesn't show up at runtime. I'll add a way to select where you want them to go in the next version anyways.
If you have trouble runing it on 7, I'd be happy to know/help too.
Sorry for having taken up your time, though I hope you can improve the program from this experience.
One last question, however. It's not related to FAGet thankfully. It's related to the foxp1b DS game. Your site shows screenshot beyond simply jerking off Fox with your stylus, yet that is the only thing I can make it do. Is this intentional or am I being stupid and missing something?
Making it work on my end is one thing, knowing why it doesn't work for other people is another :)
The screenshot with the 3D corridor is from another rom, it has nothing to do with the foxp1b.nds one for now.
I know it's confusing but I wanted to show some of the progress without giving two different programs. Everything wil be merged into the same thing after some time.
Win7 report: Lauch faget.exe; mswinsck error. Run instsck.bat; similar (NOT the same) error to Vista. Using command prompt solution for Vista; Failed.
Well, fuck.
Can you give me the error message when runing instsck.bat on 7 ?
HOWEVER, the command prompt window the .bat opens says both the .ocx and .dll copied succesfully, which did not occour with Vista. FAget.exe remains inoperable.
Try writing the full path (regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\mswinsck.ocx).
Other than that, I have no idea what you can do :/
There's no other files needed for it to run.
At least it works perfectly on Vista, as far as I've seen, once you get it to run.
Added an ignore to prevent the error dialogs. Updated faget131.zip.
And sorry if you got a mail from me yesterday, it was meant to be sent two days ago...
And there's another one: Run-time error '40006': Wrong protocol or connection state for the requested transaction or request.
And when you restart it, it doesn't seem to save the settings you have for "Save file as:" even when save settings is checked. Reverts to "Title only" each time.
Updated faget131.zip again.
small programming question, was this hard to build? I download a lot of pictures from different sites and I think I need to build a (i think it's called) image scrapper.
Again thanks so much =D.
It gets hard when you start bumping into problems which need complicated solutions.
FAget never really had one of those, it gets pages, parses them to make a list, and downloads. No dirty hacks or anything.
What exactly takes long?
I'm actually learning python so I can use Beautiful Soup to parse html code.
So even making everything from scratch how lond did it take before you got the first version to work?
I appreciate all the programming help.
It took 1 or 2 nights before it started getting usable, so about 5 hours I'd say.
I really appreciate it, you've done so much for me.
