I totally agree. I copied it and put it in another journal. =^_^=
(abridged version.)
I don't smoke, and I'm not going to stop you from smoking. And most of the time I'll even deal with the second-hand smoke. But if your smoking is bugging me and I ask you to move, I hope you'd be gracious enough to move, at least while you're smoking.
Not going to get in the way of your consuming alcohol, but I don't want you hitting me head-on when you drive home because you thought you could handle it. (Forget about killing me, I'd be mad at you for destroying my car).
Similar take on guns... not going to restrict your ability to own one, but I will ask you prove you're not going to take it to a nearby clock-tower and open up on the park-goers.
So I do agree with the underlying idea, we shouldn't take away others rights. But on the other hand, just because you have a right to do something (be it God-given, government-given or otherwise-given) doesn't mean you can be a dick about it when you're inconveniencing others.
Sound good?
(Actually, I suppose it all boils down to the Golden Rule: Treat others the way you'd like to be treated. Which nobody really seems to follow anymore)
