as much as i'd love to say this sounds like a plausible idea; and heaven knows, it MIGHT indeed end the console wars to a degree; but somehow i still see bad situations coming out of this kind of plan. it would take many levels of co-operation between the two giants, and maybe a few slightly pricy features (fully backwards compatability for BOTH 360 and ps3 games, to name at least one) before i'd say it might have a shot. than again, that's just my opinion.

If Microsony actually did enter into existence and made a console, I know for a FACT that it wouldn't be backwards compatible. This is for one reason only: Blu-Ray and HDDVD. They are completely different disk formats, and that would require two separate disk drives to be fabricated into one console, and, by then, there may even be a brand new disk format in existence that is more efficient than both.
I, personally, think that this would be one of the best mergers for the gaming industry if this happened, but not for both companies in a short-term scale. Long term, perhaps.

i don't think it would require 2 seperate drives actually. there are such things as combo drives after all, that can handle multiple formats of discs. granted you may be right about there being a new more efficient form, but we'll see.

Let's remember why such things are unlikely... copyrights... Many times, companies that are so strong want to be much more and gain more, often meaning that they want more profit.

One of the reasons Sony and Nintendo didn't pick up on their deal for the CD thing they wanted to create, is because Sony wanted to have all the copyrights to the characters. But who did really wrong here... Nintendo on overprotecting their characters or Sony on being greedy?

If Microsoft and Sony would team up to create a next-gen console that is backwards compatible with PS3 and Xbox 360 games, I would be a VERY happy gamer. o3o

I just hope that the govies don't step in citing "anti monopolization laws" and tear BOTH companies apart right at the worst moment. It has happened before: AT&T used to be the biggest company out there for phones but got torn to pieces by the govies!
