This is a plea for junk. Not just any junk. This is a request for pretty cool junk. Back before your x-boxes and playsation 3's, there was once a cool ass system called the SEGA Dreamcast. The controller was the size of a jet ski but still conformed to your hands well, it brought us the cool games that was the first two Sonic Adventures, Chu Chu Rocket, Space Channel 5, Jet Set Grind Radio, Crazy Taxi, and many more. And on top of all of that, it had web browsing (suck THAT Nintendo, the Dreamcast could prolly do the net better if it was updated to today's net standards then the Wii can!).
Sadly though, the system didn't last too long. One thing that was cool back in the day was the data that was saved wasn't on your boring memory cards, but these kick ass handheld devices called VMUs (Visual Memory Units). They look like this:
[Picture]
The "visual" part of these things was it displayed a screen that could be seen not only on the controller (well, top-most card inserted at least) and would show little sprites of stuff going on, but was a really neat way to port your Chao data from the Sonic Adventure games onto it and play with it, kind of like your own Giga Pets-type thing. These are what I'm in need of~
Now, sure, WORKING VMUs are pretty awesome. Unlike today, where memory cards can hold a crap ton of data, the VMU was able to hold only so much (meaning if you were a SEGA gamer and had all the games available for the system, you had to own damn near thirty or so cards). These things are old, and some have either worn down to dead or just need a new battery. Now, if anyone has one of these things (or more), preferably the more normal/original body ones (not the third party see through plastic cases), and they're in good condition and the screen isn't smashed, instead of tossing it/them out, think you can send the thing to me? I want to work on something with them, but you can't exactly shop for dead VMUs.... If you have working ones, that'd be awesome to get too (we only have like 3 and one of them already is full)... But yeah, I just wanna know if anyone out there has some VMUs that don't turn on and the case, buttons, and screen still look pretty good and don't have a use for them. Thought I'd ask~
Just PM me here (or message me if contacting through Tumblr/Twitter) and I'll give you an address to send them to ^^ ....no, I won't be paying for the non-working VMUs.... Sorry =\ But hey, they're not doing you any good and no one would buy one that isn't working, so, c'mon~~~

FA+

'Cause if they do,
Then the Dreamcast 2 is for you.
videos > didn't happen
sounds too fake and didn't see it > didn't happen
Dreamcast 2 doesn't even sound like a real console title. After this many years the name sounds as doable as a Crystal Pepsi 2. Besides, I think people learned a small lesson after Nuke Dukem Forever came out and wasn't as good as it should have been.
I think we should just call it The 2.
I love mine, in fact hey I think I may just see if mine still has battery on it so I can play with mine...*battery's completely gone*...darn. :C
Also, I wish I could give you one of these myself but I only have one and I'm not sure if they can only be used with a certain region's controller or all of them (I'm pretty sure it can work with all of them, it would be silly if it was the former but you never know with these sort of things...this calls for a little research!) so...sorry about that. ^^;;;
I have to ask though, why aren't you going to eBay to get one of these? I got my Dreamcast rumble pack from eBay, it was actually new and mint out of the box, and cheap! So, you never know what you may find! ;3
Right, right. Then in that case, I can't help you with that neither as my VMU still works a-OK, it just needs its battery replaced after months of neglect. xD I'm such an idiot.
It's cool~ I don't think there is a way to find inusable VMUs... But again, if we buy them and they work, then we'll be USING them. I don't wanna butcher a working one just to get a few projects done, you know?
And my first console was the original Sony PlayStation, so I just about got into that generation that was before that. And I have to be honest, besides nostalgia or if a game someone suggests to me that badly is on it exclusively, I rarely play on the PS2 that much these days. Its collection of games may be vast, but very boring. It unintentionally invented this boring new rule for there only to be three consoles to be out at the same time to compete with each other nowadays (my favourite console generation is the 32-bit generation...fucking insane, 10 consoles from that generation became obsolete. 10! I even ended up buying a 3DO last year as I was so fascinated with that. And we have to settle with just three in current generations, lame) and all-round, it's not as wonderful as people say it is. People actually buy it more for the fact that at the time it was the cheapest DVD player around and that it makes a good karaoke machine for the casual SingStar stuff but...blergh. >.< GAMECUBE, I say!
Although that said, don't lose heart. I think "retro gaming" is more popular than it used to be and people are more accepting of the old than the new. So there'll come a time when it'll all reach a commercial peak and old and new gaming will go hand-in-hand...heck, Disney are making an animated movie to sit alongside the likes of Tangled and The Princess and the Frog with the main character being a retro arcade game boss! It's only a matter of time! xD
Do I even want to know what kind of project that is..or will I see that in the news once you're done anyway? ;P
lent it to a friend and never saw it againmisplaced it =/
