Annoyance is a sign of the inability (or the choice to be unable) to rise above an issue and not get butthurt about it.
But there is just one little tiny wee thing that bothers me. It's when you check your notifications, to see that one sole person has favourited several of your pictures. In a row. Or maybe just even one pic! So you decide to check that user's page, to see what kind of art they're interested in. And in the few minutes ago they had favourited your picture(s), their Favourites page is filled with tons of pictures that they favourited just a few seconds ago.
I mean, thanks for taking the time to favourite my stuff; but geez - how does one keep track of that?
I'm a lover of art quality and art content. But I have this line. A line that defines what art I like, and what art I feel is worth, not only viewing for my own pleasure; but wanting to share with others. And because I like to keep my Submission Notifications to a minimum; I'm not flooded with tons of art updates. I like to browse at my own leisure, and usually I'll come across an artist I've never even seen before. As a token of my interest; I will favourite their picture and sometimes comment too!
But, this is really only a perspective. If you are someone who likes to favourite lots of things, please share your reasons for it. I would love to hear other people's opinions and perceptions. I bear no ill will or think less of you for it.

I agree, and I don't see why people actually feel the need to do that. When I look at someone's favourites list, I like to see it as my way of finding new artists, through my friends, friends of friends etc. Personally, I don't want to trudge through over 500 favourites from the last year or something, and prefer to see the high quality favourites that people put into their favourites. It's a portal to discovering new art, and to show them to your friends, and most certainly is not the way it is used by some, as a means of backing up what images they have saved, lol.
That said... as an artist, it is nice to post a new piece, and 3 hours later find 30 faves on it. Even though I know I'll likely never see any of my favers face to face, it's a little nod of appreciation, and it does help motivate me to draw, at least a little bit.
I would take a guess that the mass-faving behaviour is kind of an extension of that. It's using the favourite system as a way to tell artists you like their work, rather than as a way to mark yourself a little gallery you can flick back through at a later time.
I would love to see FA get two grades of favourites: "My Collection" where you can view all the images marked with this flag, and a "Good Job" button to let the artist know you think they've done really well.
I use it to save neat videos that I expect to be able to enjoy now and also later. I wouldn't say all 1587 are my favorite, that's ridiculous.
However, what's really the point of just keeping your favorites in a list like this? I already know my favorites, and I keep them in the back of my head and can find them without much trouble.
On a site like Youtube or FA, there are tons of useless or bad things people wouldn't like to see. You can avoid a lot of this by just finding the right people and not reading the front page.
The favorites list I keep acts a list of filtered submissions. Chances are that people who comment and post these will have similar taste, so it also makes them easier to find. Additionally, because of the large amount of videos on the my favorites list, it is easy for someone to learn a lot about my preferences, including the smaller stuff.
Also keep in mind the favorites list is, in the end, a list of submissions that can be accessed from my page. The list is named favorites, but I see that as a suggestion for how it should be used, and I don't really feel like using it that way is the best for me, so I've repurposed it.
As an example: a school textbook is made to be read, but because of its properties, it can also be used to fuel a fire or as a footrest.
Do note your approach is different than many others'. Not better, not worse. Different. I'm only glad you mention that you don't have any intention of judging others or telling them how they should use the system they've been given.
