Yes, I'm late to the party. Eat me. I take pride in not being caught up in damn fads. I wait to see if something holds out after the hype.
Portal seems to have. I'm reliably lead to believe that Portal is, indeed, fun. And the whole Orange Box thing is a pretty good deal, especially considering I held out over all the Half-Life 2 stuff. So I'm finally giving it a try. Portal first.
"...as the effects of prolonged exposure to the button are not part of this test."
I think I'm going to like this. :)
(Running in Linux under Wine, FYI.)

They also gave 2007's Most Memorable Moment to Portal's credits song! "Amazing that we've picked a bit of a game where you basically have to do nothing but watch a credit roller as our most memorable moment in gaming of the year!" Ha!
Wine's doing quite well. For the most part following instructions and howtos out there worked. It took a little prodding to set up (and overnight to download through Steam, but that's hardly Wine's fault), and it only works in DirectX 8.0 mode at the moment (apparently the latest Wine will do DX9.0 mode without the graphics artifacts). Actual gameplay is fine. I didn't mention it before, but one big reason I decided to get it was that, along with being informed that it was good, I was also informed that it worked almost perfectly in Wine. Sure enough.
Not sure about Mac OS X Wine. I can't give you an appraisal myself, never tried it, but googling has shown me that it does exist: Darwine. This may also be of interest.
*up to the start of level 19 now... I miss my companion cube. OH MY GOD, WHAT HAVE I DONE?! /wrists*
