Huuummmm... I mean, il think about it.....

I didn't seriously consider anything about the CPU or the motherboard, so we'd have to look into that more, but that one is about equivalent to an i5-2500 according to the passmark benchmarks.

You could also go for an nvidia GTX 580 for $560, and spend a little more on the CPU.

In all seriousness though, according to bit-tech, they are very similar. If they're the same price, I'd go for the Radeon HD 6850

Eh I've always liked the Nvidia cards better for gaming over the Ati ones which always seemed better for everything else. I don't know the Nvidia drivers always seemed to be better optimized for gaming while Ati was more for graphics design and the like. Mind you I haven't bought a graphics card in ages was always lucky in picking up older ones from techy friends who had to have the latest or just didn't need them anymore.

All that said go with the one that's cheaper :P I really can't see them being so different that someone who just wants to game will notice too much difference. My current card is a Nvidia GeForce 8600GTS and it works perfectly fine for everything I've put my computer through and its at least 2 years old atm when I got it used.

As an admitted AMD fanboy, go ATI.

The drivers suck sometimes, but it's a solid piece of hardware.

Wish I could help ... I'm a bit out of touch with gaming system components though

Personally would snag the Ati.. have had MUCH better experiences with ati cards than nvidia.. this from a former nvidia fan boy. Also working in the shop, I've seen MUCH (like 50%+) higher failure rates of nvidia hardware than ati.
