From the other side...
So, those of you who caught one of my latest journals will know that
sidfox and I have been trying to get a Purple Saturn SC2 running.
Today, we went back to my brother's house to drain the oil out of the car, replace the spark plugs, and replace the oil filter. My grandmother and I get there about 3 minutes after 5, and we see my brother's roommate Casey freaking about about her boyfriend buying her a canoe. We were all really happy for her... except her, and her boyfriend both parked in the way of the Saturn that needed worked on... so, as soon as she calmed down enough, we asked her to help move their cars.
Once the cars were out of the way (which actually proved difficult since Casey lost the keys to her boyfriend's car) we got to work...
there was SOO MUCH OIL in this car... I mean, I've never seen that much oil before IN MY LIFE... and I'm Italian, we go through olive oil like MAD.
So, we drained the oil, then
Sidfox felt the need to pull off all the extra wires for the neons, and the amplifier... then the neon's themselves... He went a little crazy with his Swiss army Knife... >.>
anyway, then we set out to get the oil filter off... but the oil filter wasn't coming off easily, and we needed the help of a specific pair of pliers that
sidfox did not have... so, we set off to advance auto parts, got the pliers (and another small part that we needed) got something to munch on, and went on our way.
so, we got the oil filter changed out... and we saw something funny while under the car. Some of you may remember me saying that there was an issue with the catalytic converter... well, we found out the issue: All the pipes around the catalytic converter were "Jerry rigged." Someone had taken a piece of sheet metal, wrapped it into a pipe formation around the exhaust pipe and the converter, and secured it in place with Hose Clamps. the Jerry rigged pipe was bent to kingdom come... SO, the car needs a new exhaust system strait pipe.
Then we change the spark plugs... after that was all finished up, we hooked jumper cables up to Sidfox's and my car, and we attempted to start it...
It took a couple minutes, but after awhile, it seemed that Sidfox did breathe a breath of life into the car. When the engine finally started to turn over, I swear, I could hear the Hallelujah chorus (the engine revving rendition.)
so, with a giant cloud of "burning oil" smoke, the car ran.
after some of the oil burned off, we took the car over to advance auto parts to run some scans on it... at which point the antifreeze tank started to spew hot green goodness from it's top... A new cap on that fixed the issue, and a new set of windshield wipers put the car in a good enough condition to drive home, which mind you, is a 30 min drive.
So, we set off for home, smoking just a bit the whole way there, Sidfox and my grandmother in tow.
we made it back to my house in one piece... the car runs GREAT... save for the exhaust system, and the brakes which both need a little work. thankfully I have Sidfox to help me out with this.
SO, I have a car... I still need to get it put in my name, and the license plates are not only expired, but are in the name of the owner BEFORE my brother... so, it's drivable... yet not yet drivable. (although, this will not stop me for now. ^^)
