When The Moon Hits Your Eye (Paged version)
(PDF version is coming soon)
(Enough people dinna go for the 'narrow-column' Journal idea. So back to normal for this one. Next one, got an idea...)
For my [technically] very first fur story, and first porn story, When The Moon Hits Your Eye is looking like it hit the mark. Happy kitty here. Although I can see some risks to this one that could...
<Screeeech!!> Back up there, mister. *First* story!?
Exactamundo. Didn't say up front; could skew reader reaction. It's a long way from the first story I ever wrote, of course, but up until Fall of 2007 all I'd ever worked on was pure SF. Had a ton of short stories done, several novel ideas cooking.
Then in 2007, it was as simple as tripping over some art of Champagne. <Smat!>: two-by-four to the head. This is a Character, with a capital C. Who is this fur woman?
There are stories to be written about her. Not all of which involve a stripper pole and a blue, er, stage prop (Yes, that picture; got large print of it on my kitchen wall).
After msging Bernal for more data about her (and permission to write about her), what should come back but an agreement? Write hot fur stories for SexyFur and you will be paid in money. You know, the green stuff, lets you buy things. I'm already typing.
Okay, but type what? A first look at the SexyFur archive made that a moot question. Just keep asking, 'who is this fur woman?' and there are plenty of story ideas here.
Still, I was dry for a first idea. Fortunately, I'd recently read Tanith Lee's 'Lycanthia.' One whopping good werewolf story there.
Ping! How about a werewolf story? Not an unpopular furfic topic. Ah ah, porn, remember. Let's make that a female werewolf story, and say she goes all but uncontrollably into heat on or about the full Moon. Plausible.
Doesn't get me out of the woods. The story needs a hook, a Maguffin, a plot device...
Ah ah, no spoilers here. Those who've read it know what it is. To those who haven't, it lies in precisely when and where she loses her control. And with whom. The whole story builds up to this.
Technically, this is barely a plot framework, not a plot idea. It's keyed in on the characteristics of the female main character. But it was enough to let me start speculating, then to ask questions, specifically about the kind of problems this woman would face.
Once a month she wants to rape something. Or more or less be raped? (Leads to quite a different story, no?) As human, what does she do for work? And so on. I had Karen in less than an hour. Instantly, that gave me her method for finding men to, ah, help her with her little problem.
Same process generated the male lead, only with an eye to great contrast and potential for conflict. Porn story: he'll do well as a hunk. Where did Aussie come from? Only after Karen opened the door and he said his first line. I'll take it and run with it.
Works well, I think (and do I like Australia). But the story only really took off upon realizing that Mark was a mildly-impoverished Aussie scientist under that courier uniform.
Then I knew I had a quasi-SF story on my hands, even though there is magic involved and it is a fantasy piece. But it's also a porn piece. The magic angle cannot really be explored (no time or room). Gotta get these two horizontal.
Or however they decide they want to Do It. Surprise me, kids.
And they did, actually. I wasn't expecting the role play section. But fersure had fun with it.
As for the actual sex scenes (that's what the money was for) there's reason to think those need to be made more 'sensory' and descriptive. Trying to explain what sex means isn't something that should necessarily be done in a sex scene. This story must own up to some of that [wordy] sin. Later stories do better.
And... ah, what was that 'technically' way back at the top?
In no time at all I got stuck; tough story. But after studying the SexyFur archive, one character jumped out as quickly doable: Florence, a canine fur nurse with a clearly therapeutic bedside manner. A nurse? Hey, that means she works in a hospital, right? There's hunky janitors in hospitals, right?
Ping, ping, ping! That story wrote itself, kicked it's way out the modem, and was up and posted to SexyFur before the ink/pixels was/were dry. Much more straight fur porn-ish, set in a world of humans and furs. I know exactly where the gay tiger fur hospital director came from.
So Removing The Cause was first sold, but second written. Moon was first written, but second sold. RTC will be posted at some point.
And I almost said something about risk, didn't I? I shall say so now.
The more astute fur readers may have spotted the issue. This isn't a 'classical' fur story. The characters are not furs, nor is there anything furry mentioned except for an oblique reference to suiting. The story does, however, present a picture of one very interesting werewolf.
Not a problem for a fur readership. It could be read by a non-fur readership without any trouble. Sexy werewolf story. What's the problem?
Well, we know Karen's a werewolf. Karen knows she's a werewolf. Mark does not know that Karen's a werewolf. And to be sure, the wolf in Karen knows.
(The wolf was deliberately set up as a third 'semi-character' within Karen. Does this make these sex scenes threesomes?)
We *know* all this. So when it comes down to the last part and a human male fucks a female wolf into the carpet, we don't even blink.
Oh?
The text reads the way it's printed: human male fucks female wolf. There are in fact stories that deal in this sort of thing. There's a word, starts with a B, what was it...?
Well, it's the very thing that fur writing tends to slapped with by non-fur readers, right? Many fur stories strongly play up the animal aspects of the characters. Many fur stories that deal with sex do not shy away from this. When the B-word gets thrown at a fur writer, what is he or she supposed to say?
<Pppbbhtt!!> might be a good start. Fur writing has nothing to do with that. Evil in the eye of the beholder. Porn between characters who have animal attributes is not the same thing as porn between characters who *are* animals (or one of them, anyway).
Then there are the stories where a human male fucks a female wolf into the carpet. She happens to be sentient, she has a name, and yes she can indeed cook him breakfast the following morning.
This may cut no ice with some future editor whose publishing policy forbids any whiff of the letter B (sic). Apart from SexyFur, I may have written my first unpublishable story. And/or, getting it into a future anthology is gonna take the rhetorical equivalent of nuclear weapons.
<Pppbbhtt!!> to that. I still love this story.
PS #1: There are a number of potential sequel ideas that are slowly accreting in the back brain. If there be werewolves, there may also be vampires. One named Helga, perhaps?
One loose thread is also the guy who bit Karen. And if possible, book three may see an amorous unicorn with a very hot secret weapon (no, not that). Stay tuned.
PS #2: Despite a steep learning curve, this paging business looks like a success. If I do everything right, I think I can now post a 50K word story in about 3-4 hours of work. Plus some prep (that's where those Empty File things are coming from).
Thanx to all who offered comment, and more thanx to those who put up with it.

If. Don't intend to, but if a major out there has other ideas Moon could be a topic. I could
have worse problems.
There are strategic reasons behind the Commentary stuff. Mainly because I know some
readers will have questions. I'll answer 'em up front; much easier.
I'll argue that all FA writers should do em, but I won't argue it right now.
Thanx for the opinions; valuable.
should stay buried.
That goes for the zombies who brought this current crop of suck-heads into pop culture.
Neo-romantic twaddle with expensive dental prosthetics.
OTOH, I'm a Tanith Lee junkie. I'll follow her shining example in 'Sabella.'
Helga *ain't* gonna be your Grandpappy's vampire. Remember, this is porn. Where did we say
she likes to bite again? :- >
Vampire, succubus, what's the diffrence? Well, the veery interesting threesome in
scene seven, for one.
Book two is very close to writing itself, IMHO. We'll see.
