Thundercats (2011)

General
So after a very long day of a lot of things happening, I finally got time to sit down and watch the season premier of the new Thundercats series.
I don't want to being by saying that it's absolutely amazing and I definitely have high hopes for it, because while it definitely is, that's not a whole lot to go with. Yes, I was very satisfied with the first episode, but it's more to it than just basic enjoyment, even though that does account for part of it.
Right from the very beginning of the show I could easily tell that it had a very Avatar: The Last Airbender style, at the very least with the art design. What Avatar does for Asian cultures, Thundercats looks like it's doing the same with with greco-roman; reminiscent of what we have in the real world, but different enough that you get the atmosphere of the place, but you also know that it's definitely not what we'd be expecting. It's familiar, but at the same time it feels new and interesting, how's that for a brain bender?
Episode 1 does a pretty good job of establishing the characters of who we know to be the main cast (if not just because of their prominent screen time, but also because we're all familiar with the old TV show), though while I kinda wish we could have gotten more face time with the "Thunderkittens" Wilykit and Wilykat, the plot of the episode focused on the power trio of Lion-O, Tygra, and Cheetara (kinda), so it's understandable that they wouldn't be showcased as much, as we still have a full season to flesh out and explore everyone's characters.
I also shouldn't have to point out that Tygra, in addition to being a Deadpan Snarker and having some bitchin' green armor (that I'd totally love to have in SL), is already shaping up to be my favorite character... ya know... being both Tigers and all... *drool*...
... Wh-what was I talking about th- Oh! Oh yeah. Claudus. Hot DAMN, Claudus... voiced by the original Lion-O with a drop dead sexy what I can only assume to be is a baritone voice, built like a truck, and with a GORGEOUS mane... I doubt Rule 34 will ever hit another fictional character so hard (don't let me down, FurAffinity!). If only the sexy king read TVTropes...
Seriously, that giant-ass crystal thingy? That was so obviously a Trojan Horse, I could see that coming a mile away... though I will admit it kinda looked like a bomb at first, though that I attribute to seeing bombs shaped like that in video games and stuff. I was also fully expecting and not at all surprised by the sudden Face Heel Turn by that Grune person... for the record, I don't remember that character from the original 80's series, but apparently he did the exact same thing there, so it was probably blatantly obvious to anyone who did recognize him.
I had a lot more to write about, like the magic vs technology stint that this series has so far presented (the magical kingdom of Thundara against the technology-wielding Mutants) or where the heck Panthro is supposed to be, seeing as how he hasn't made an official appearance in the show yet.
Again, as I said above, I think this is a very strong start to the series and I'm very happy to say that this is one of only two TV shows I actually bother turning on my TV to watch now (the other is Power Rangers, and neither Kamen Rider or Super Sentai count, since I can only watch them on my computer).
Also, I get the feeling I'll have more than my fair share of Thundercats fan-art in my gallery in the near future.
*Goes back to dreaming about all the wonderfully naughty things to do with Tygra and Claudus. Lion-O, too, since he's adorable like that.*

Yup, you are right, it has a promising feel to it.. but let's see how it goes from now on.
Now.. for the Grune character.. yup.. it was in the 80's series, and yup, he joined the bad guys and was a mean guy. Hard to forget that saber tooth fella (well.. with the only one tooth that was left :P). Quite a hotie btw (then and now), hehe.
I just wonder how are they going to manage Lion-O age... would they keep him as a junior?? since in the old series he grew old in body, but still had the mind of a boy. What if they keep him as a junior, how can he look imposing as his father with such a short age ?? I guess we'll find out later.
