Yes, yes, a million times yes.

I'm glad someone out there agrees with me! I'm not interested in generic "glowstick rave" music, things clumsily put together in Fruityloops or people strumming on their guitars all out of tune in their bathrooms, and I don't intend on being just because I share the same fandom as their creators. :P
And yes, I am a grumpy old man. I revel in being so.

I am sure there are plenty of classically trained musicians out there in the fandom, it's just they don't produce the music I am really interested in. But yes I have to agree with you about the 'glowstick rave' stuff. I mean it's fine if you like it; but there are some people who only seem to like certain artists because they are furry, and that is what bugs me the most.

I find the whole "glowstick rave" aspect of the fandom totally ridiculous. I mean, they might have been cool back in 1993, but these days...? I mean, not trying to make myself sound overly knowledgable on the topic, I'm not interested in raves, however that said I have been to a couple (grudgingly), and I can safely say that glowsticks did not feature at all. As far as I can make out, all the furries out there who try and make out that they're a hardcore "glowstick raver" (and there are many) have probably never been to a rave in their life. :P

I'm proud to say I have never and would never go to a rave, glowsticks or not. Listening to thumping techno while doing whatever it is those people do is about the least appealing thing I could think of. :x

I'm in full agreement. It was awful. Utterly awful. I only went because I didn't know it was happening. (Don't ask, it'd take too long to explain). I was clawing at the walls to get out after 5 minutes. As far as I can tell, the Anthrocon "rave" is of the glowstick and crap dance music variety (of course), hence I turned down all offers to visit it during my time there a couple of years back.
But yes, on returning to the earlier point; I'm always being recommended furry musicians, and with a little delving it soon becomes clear that I'm being recommended them because they're furry, not because they have any skill at what they do. On the flipside, when I try and recommend any music, it usually gets cast aside for being too "different". This fandom depresses me sometimes.

I agree with the whole glowsticks rave thing it's a complete cliché which everyfurry and their humans seem to be adopting as if it were the coolest and most original thing ever, don't get me wrong, hence why I specifically don't ask for that kind of music in journals like this. :b

It's good to know I'm not the only person out here who find it all rather silly! And don't get me wrong, I think sometimes the "glowstick effect" in certain art pieces can give a really vibrant, fun look. But I'm just rather sick of seeing every bloody furry out there trying to make out they're a die-hard raver, when in actual fact they rarely even venture out of the basement, and the fact they think glowsticks = rave proves they've never been to one anyway. x3
