Happened to me, once. Luckily, I knew the guy and he showed me that I missed a comment back.

This is why I'm a giant message hoarder and I don't delete any of my notices. :P

I do that more often than not. Fortunately, I so very seldom really CONVERSE (i.e., enter into an exchange of information and ideas where there is an actual thread of thoughts opened between two parties). Therefore, when I forget that someone has replied to something I've said, it's like forgetting someone has said "oh." or "Well I usually flush before looking," something that I really have no pressing need to continue replying to, and often NOT replying improves the overall readability of the post.
