a bad artist is really hard to come by cuz everyone does their own thing. thats a major fundamental of art. if you were a bad artist i wouldn't be watching you.

If you want to get real technical with this, no one is a bad artist. Period. Art is an expression of oneself, and as long as the piece expresses the creator's viewpoint and the creator itself likes it, then it's good art.

But even being at a pickety standpoint, art school and classes won't do shit for most people. All they do is teach you the basics and the history of art anyways. The only thing that determines whether or not you're a bad artist is if you just up and stop practicing, and just let your quality degrade. Since I'd never see such a thing come from you Lena, I'd say you're a great artist.

She's just extremely old fashioned and thinks the only way to learn shit is to get schooled on it, regardless of how many artists there are making a living off their art that never went to art school.
Protip before you beat yourself up over it like I know you're prone to do because all artists get down about their art: HoneyKing never went to art school and you see how well he does.

I hate realism and I hated it more when i went to art classes but i did learn a lot of other stuff that i changed into my own style. Art school is not bad and true you can do alot without it but learning new things is never bad.

While I admit that art school is valuable and can help anyone with their art, just because you haven't gone doesn't make you a bad artist! I personally have no funds for art school, so I further my knowledge with books and tutorials. As long as you're learning and improving, you're doing fine IMO.

Fun Fact: I went to an art highschool and was ridiculed because I couldn't do loose, flowy, "messy" art. I am tight and technical. Does that make me a bad artist? Hell no, I'm just different!

Anyway art is subjective. Let her have her opinion, there's obviously no changing it. But keep in mind that you are a great artist because you're always learning, you draw in your own style, and just because she's older, doesn't mean she knows it all.

Psh, no. The only thing it might means is that you don't want to pursue a career in art. I don't want to draw realism or go to art school either. I just want to express myself, and draw my ideas.

No matter what anyone says you're a good artist! Just ignore your grandmother if she thinks you're bad.

Remember sweetie back then arts from her time have realisim before more culture is coming around plus more within emotion and expressions to the human emotion. Drawing still life and realistic things is a very usefull skill for any artist. But it is not a strict requirement.
