Seagate, I am disappoint

It's been 2 years? 3 years? Somewhere along that timespan, I bought a Seagate 500GB external. It served me well.
Now it seems to not want to function at all. It shows up as local disk and never goes beyond that, compared to my junk-ass iOmega 60GB drive that still works after all these years of neglect and being crammed into my backpack. Maybe it's the fact that I put this Seagate in a place where it's pressed pretty hard in my back. It could be something else. It wasn't making any clicks-of-death when it failed to detect, though, so I'm even more baffled.
Whatever the real cause may be, I'll just conclude that this drive has suffered a fatal heart attack. I don't even know what I've lost in that drive.
Time to invest in another successor in case my 1TB WD Elements decides to shit itself early as well. Preferably another WD Elements with more than 1TB of space, judging by the good reputation I've heard.
I wish external drives were immortal. It'd save me heaps of money. :I
