If i were to start playing video games, what system/games ?
General
I basically stopped playing video games after Sega Genesis came out. I have an NES and a sega and that's it, i never got anything past that. The only game I'm good at is Dr. Mario (Which i am REALLY good at). I guess i used to be good at Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat 2, but i haven't played those in a while.
Then i played some PC games, like you don't know jack and roller coaster tycoon, and Kings Quest 7. That was when windows 95 came out. In college i played Super smash brothers and i blew at it. That was where my brain collapsed, there were too many buttons and i didn't know any moves.
Soooo, anyway, i'm pretty out of the loop now. When people talk about video games, i have no idea what they're talking about. I am the worst furry ever! If i were to decide to start playing video games again, recently I've decided i might be missing out and i should start playing some games. If i were to buy a system or start playing video games now, what should i play and what system should i buy? Or should i just get some PC games? (i have a pc after all)
Some Info: I don't think i like First person shooters.
i used to like really involved RPG games and fighting games. I recently played some new street fighter game and it was way too much flashing and crazyness for me.
I really liked Theme Park/Sim City/Roller coaster tycoon, but I didn't like Sim People or whatever.
Of course Dr. Mario is my favorite game. yeah, I don't know.
I also like the prospect of playing online with other people.

FA+

Get a 3DS and you can also begin doing what I'm shocked no one has. 3D Fursuit photography.
I don't have any kind of gaming knowledge whatsoever because I lost all my patience regarding games beyond a small smattering of thing I played for PS/PS2
If you enjoy playing with others over the web, the PC is definitely the way to go. If you have a Mac, dual boot it with a Windows OS. There is an immense amount of multiplayer games on the PC. and like someone mentioned before, with an emulator, you can play different consoles and arcade games on the PC, like the Playstation, SNES, DS, PS2, NES, even lots of Arcade games like CVS1-2 (Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, and most Capcom Arcade games) and Neo-Geo (SNK games and much more fun games). MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) is great for a large, LARGE variety of classic arcade games.

The only thing about 360 that's no fun is that to play online you have buy a gold membership that's around $60 a year.
I would suggest looking into PC games first. Browse through online game markets from Windows LIVE and Steam and things like that! You'll find all sorts of interesting games separated into categories. GOG is another site (Good Old Games) that you can browse through if you're interested in some things you may have missed that aren't exactly new either.
If you want to enjoy what I'm enjoying most of my time, get (Some of these interchangeable with emulation):
A Nintendo 64.
A Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
A Nintendo Wii. (And mod it! Then it can be a very nice SNES and Sega Genesis among other things.)
A Playstation 2 (Unless the 3 tempts you and it's backwards compatible?? I'm unsure.)
An XBOX 360 (Or wait for the new one? Sometime..? I don't actually have one but I play them a lot.)
The Gameboys.
But do get a Nintendo DS. I miss mine. There's plenty of titles that succeeded (some) of the Gameboy titles and are worth playing.
Perhaps wait for the WiiU to come out!
Really, go play some old Playstation 1 and 2 games and alternate that with quirky Nintendo games and random PC games.
Try Terraria, look into Minecraft. Maybe you'll like those! Play some Diablo 1 and 2. If you like that, play Torchlight.
There are lots of games to play online with people, all kinds of games. Right now, Steam has started some (sort of) free to play games. One of them is Spiral Knights. I believe it is.. always multiplayer. I haven't played it yet. But you can go play it, right now. I think.
Diablo seems to be a title people talk about a lot, i should check that one out.
I get pretty bored with Minecraft after a few seconds, I heard it's better with friends. But you might like Terraria instead, I did.
Have fun with the PS2, try Final Fantasy 12 and Okami! Katamari Damacy as well, if you can. Resident Evil 4 is a good title too.

No idea what games you'd want. But PC you can do the most with. Including laying roms of old console games.
If you want a console -- I don't play the new consoles, just old ones -- my favorites are the SNES and the N64. Games for the N64 (or heck, might be able to get roms for the PC now) that I think you'd like are Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie. And Space Station Silicon Valley was awesome: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_.....Silicon_Valley These are old games. I'm picking those cause they have cartoon humor, and the banjo games were creative and brilliant. And Conker's Bad Fur Day. <
THIS
Silicon Valley is one of my favorite games ever. So are those 2 banjo games.
(I haven't owned a system since the Atari 2600, don't listen to me. If being furry is synonymous with being a video game addict, then I'm a worse furry than you are.)
Why is the new one coming out on 3ds whyyyyy
i've been addicted to bust-a-move on the 3DS. but there are other regular versions as well. good puzzle type game. especially if you love dr mario as much as you keep saying.
let me know.
Handheld systems have come a long way. the DS architecture is as good as a N64, and the 3DS is even better. There are thousands of games on the cartridges and hundreds available to download through the shop channels. you can get them in just about all genres.
Look at that, you got me into work mode again. Ugh. But then who better to help you pick out a system?
Virtual Boy. Any game.
I sort of know where your house is now, we could totally do this. We should play dead game consoles in suit and stream it. (it will just be a lot of cursing)
Of course, having a computer means you can already play a lot of cheap or free games. Here's a free RPG I like:

Here's a free platformer about BDSM:

Here's a free game about abused plush toys:

Here's this one:

That's a good start, I think.
i dunno i really like my PS3. but PC has some rad games too. PC is just a pain because you're always having to UPGRADE, which i can't afford.
Wii is fun but there are like four good games for it so i don't really recommend it.
You're going to get fifty different answers as to what current-gen console is the best one, so let me try to break it down:
Wii: Probably will have the most retail titles you'd care about/enjoy. Unfortunately, while the system is cheap, the games almost never drop in price ever. If you like platformers it's the only console worth talking about. Downloadable titles include a) older Nintendo games (which you amazing, but you can emulate), b) indie titles (which are amazing, but available elsewhere and look better), c) shitty games.
360: Retail will bore you; downloadables are amazing. Lots of indie stuff. $60 a year to play online, sadly.
PS3: See above, except with worse downloadables, and more expensive up front but no online fee. There are some slight other differences (PS3 has PS2 support, sort of) but if you want to play PS2 games you should just get a PS2.
Honestly considering you haven't played games in around a decade you'll be able to find plenty of stuff to entertain you; in your shoes I wouldn't buy a console at all at this point, not even the older ones.
Also, download Steam and let everybody add you. Generally speaking, if a game comes out on more than one system, one of those platforms will be Steam. Big-name retail FPSs? On Steam. Indie platformers and RPGs? On Steam. Word games you play on your phone? On Steam. Honestly, just set it up, let people add you, browse around and build a wishlist, and then wait until Christmas or your birthday rolls around and people will compulsively buy you games. As far as playin'-online goes, I hear Terraria is pretty neat - it's like Minecraft but 2D and has some other elements (like monster-fightin') that have had many of my friends give it their approval - even those who didn't like Minecraft.
In short: Get a DS of some sort and get Steam. If some crazy person goes on about how great some old game is (I, personally, think that Paper Mario is a game everybody should play) you can probably just emulate it.
Okami (PS2)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)
Banjo Tooie (N64)
Assassin's Creed II (X360/PS3)
Red Dead Redemption (X360/PS3)
Grand Theft Auto IV (X360/PS3/PC)
Final Fantasy IX (Playstation)
Jet Grind Radio (Dreamcast)
Space Channel 5 (Dreamcast)
These aren't in any particular order. I feel like I'm missing a bunch of games, though.
