Actually it has always be far from the best OS. User has administrator priviledges by default = Epic fail. OS drive(c:) always shared(even if file sharing is turned off) = Epic fail.
Btw, regular users never create a normal user account for daily use.

Linux is good but even it isn't perfect. Actually there isn't such thing as "perfect" OS because every OS is good for some things and bad for some things. I.e. Windows is good for gaming, Mac OS is good for multimedia works and Linux is good for programming and web servers.

Actually there are now Windows setups that are better for multimedia than macs, which are therefore now almost entirely useless.
Will concede that Linux is still better for programming tho. Such will probably always be the case

You silly person, the best computer is the one that fits all the users needs and makes them happy. Having this argument is redundant, pointless, but does make you happy - so whether you're having it on an ipad or a multi-thousand dollar windows desktop, you're computer is doing a perfect job at being a computer which makes you happy.
And my macbook does a great job running over three monitors, which is how I like to use it.
And my netpanda (it's a netbook, with a panda sticker on the back! ^_^) does a great job running portal 2, counter strike, and doom 3, it's a perfect computer as well. ^_^

Hehe, I realize I'm missing the point here, but I'm sort of not. All in all a computer's health largely comes down to responsible use. If you set up your computer to be exposed to more threats, it's really not the computer's fault if the security isn't set up right. I think a lot of the "this OS isn't secure" debate comes from people using computer's irresponsibly. I've personally used laptops and desktops running xp, vista, 7, osx 10.4-6. The only computer I ever had troubles with was a desktop which I used for, admittedly, illegitimate purposes (pirating etc...). After stopping that habit and deleting all that data, I haven't had a SINGLE computer issue - in over two years, on three different pieces of hardware running various Operating Systems... besides the occasional dumping of some extraneous cookies, and a few hardware malfunctions (my macbook's fans died, and the dvd drive failed... x.x).

Though, it is curious that with a few command prompts you can delete any user account in OSX and set up a new one, avoiding all security systems.... >.> I tried it once, it scared the crap out of me.

XP for even normal use is epic fail compaired to 2000pro (older but far more stable OS)

WinXP is a security risk because it's so old. There might also be some compatibility issues because modern hardware might not be fully compatible with it.

avast + host file mod + firefox + xpProX64Sp2 = most secured system you will ever use

as for hardware, its still compatible...your just stuck with DX9 games

Actually it's not. Any Linux distro with SELinux enabled is more secure than that.

Uh, 64bit XP is pretty damn unstable. You should have gone with 7 Professional.

I use most of them actually, so they are not useless. Plus it was a lot cheaper for a full copy and working license.

Windows 7. 7 is a step up from XP, and even if it wasn't, XP isn't being supported anymore.

AVG/Avast are crap.

XP is decent, although it can run into driver problems & issues in 64 bit

Avast is actually pretty slick. I'm sorry that you probably use Norton/Symantic.

I do use Norton. Wanna know why?
In 6 months working at a computer repair store, we'd have about a dozen PC comes in per day. 90% of those were for software problems, the other 10% hardware.
Of that 90% of software problems, about 75% per virus related. Wanna know which scanners they used? Avast, AVG, and other random crap download for free 'virus scanners' which actually did **** all.
I never saw a Norton or Macafee machine come in with a virus problem, in almost 20 years of working with computers. Make what you will of that.

2000 is the worst one ever. 98 was more stable than win2000 or winNT. Xp still most stable for gaming as far as I'm concerned. Vist is what I'm stuck with ATM and it's ok but redundant asking me if it's ok for me to do every little thing. Never messed with 7

Always used Xp which was really fun to work with. After i have brought a new laptop with vista on it... well I installed 7 instantly and never had problems with it.
As for Windows Xp 64bits it's is pretty much what you will expect of it, XP but then a little bit faster but not better than the 32 bits .

Man I don't know what you're doing but with both XP and 7 I never experience crashes or freezing, at least to the extent you're receiving. I use my PC for after effects and rendering along with music recording and gaming. You gotta be doing something wrong.

Strongly advise against Windows XP 64; there are some very good reasons why adoption was so low. 64-bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7 are much, much better.

Mac OS forever=) no viruses, no bugs, no problems with graphics staff=)
