I spent under $1400 on a MacBook Pro, includes the ProCare stuff, w/ Windows 7 loaded via Boot Camp. It's my gaming machine, and I love it.
My sister just got a Sony Vaio w/ all kinds of crazy add-ons that's almost around $1500 in all. It's slower than my machine - and my MacBook is over 1 year old - the Vaio is 2 months old (on the market) O_O
I prefer desktops I build myself, personally. Much less expensive than pre-assembled stuff and building it yourself can be pretty fun.
