I don't normally post this many journals, but this one is kinda interesting.

It's quite old now though and I can see a bunch of changes I would make. Like turning the grey one into a doberman (it'd suit better) and fixing her legs.

It was my featured submission for well over a year though so that might go a ways to explaining it, it was a first view of my character for many of my page viewers. I just recently saw this again in real life (I sold it at EF 09) and actually it looked way better than the scan.
3. Post a link to an entry you can't understand why so many people favorited, because in your own opinion, it doesn't deserve them.

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4142849/ - Lessons for the Little Hunter - This attracted a whole bunch of faves, but for the life of me I can't tell why, because it is literally a rough sketch with some messy b&w shading thrown on it. If it had been fully finished, I could get it, but not in its current state.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4985504/ ***NSFW*** - After the Action - I won't lie, this was an experiment, and it pretty much proved itself. Will I attract way more faves than I deserve if I draw some really blatant, really shameless porn? Even if I don't put nearly the effort into it that I normally make on my art? The answer was yes. I'm not going to belittle anyone who liked or faved it - I mean, if you thought it was hot then it did its job - but it did basically prove that yep, if I focused on pure porn I could attract more faves/views/watchers. :P

You might actually never have seen some of these, they had few pageviews comparitively.

I loved the original to bits (it has a nice home at least!). But hardly anyone viewed it, and at the EF artshow last year its reception was SO disappointing. I still love it. :P

Masai Jackal is a great depiction of a character and its jewelry. It's also - to be blunt - boring as hell; the guy's just standing there with a neutral expression. How much more popular would it have been if the jeweler had been actually making those jewels, or selling some of them to a family? (It's also hard to see it all on one page.)
Often it takes more than one character to produce an emotional response. And while you do have several pictures with more than one character, they're typically commissioned porn. Sure, sex is guaranteed to get some views, but it can also be a turnoff and discourage people from +faving it. Merely mature work is apparently twice as popular - and good G-rated work can be as well.
If more people pay for backgrounds on their pinups, then you'd find more like the Razia piece, however they tend to WANT either no background or the simple colour splashes etc. I don't fault them for that, because it appeals to me too. One of my favourite artists became far less interesting to me when they went from mostly single character, limited background, standard composition stuff over to odd angles, vast backgrounds, action scenes. It's just my aesthetics.
At one point, I felt really guilty about it and felt like I was a crappy artist because of it - but I don't anymore. No point denying what I like in art anymore than being embarassed about listening to certain music. :P
I think I've just seen so many characters now that another one by itself isn't that interesting to me as a viewer. If I were actually drawing them, it might be another matter . . .
I think the reason little hunter did so well is because of the sense of connection between the two characters. You can put multiple characters in a piece and, though they may be interacting, if they don't show an emotional bond it doesn't work as well. Little Hunter masterfully captured that bond.
