It's worth noting that Warthogs are depicted in the Halo games as being extremely quick machines, considering their size. Because they're not fully-enclosed they need to be able to move quickly to avoid fire. As a result they have not only great speed, but great handling via all-wheel-steering.
Warthog racing is a rather popular Halo multiplayer gametype, in fact. So while this whole deal reeks of Halo 4 promotion, there is at least a logical link.
