Our grandparents say they remember what they were doing on December 7, 1941 when our country was attacked by the Japanese. Two generations later we can say the same thing for September 11, 2001. I can honestly remember every detail of that day when our nation was attacked in a jihad of terror.
I was in 9th grade and it was a school day. My first exposure to what was going on was in my Earth Science class. The teacher had the TV to the news on to get us more cultured to what is going on in the world. It would only be for a few minutes each day. When I got to that class I saw the report on the world trade center but I didn't know what to make of it. At the time it was another report of violence somewhere in the world. One of the other students in the classroom was a jerk and changed the channel to something else and we couldn't get the TV to work again. The rest of the school day went on normally, unsuspecting to what was actually going on. It was when I got home that I heard the news. My mom had the TV on and it was replaying the events of the morning. It was like watching a scene out of a horror movie but this was no fiction. It was real. I have relatives who live in New York, though not the city. I was glad to hear they were safe. 9/11 was a sobering moment for me was well for the rest of the country.
Never forget, but live for the future.
