Fan art in relation to originals

REQUESTS: Never. Ever.
TRADES: MAYBE Doesn't hurt to ask.I find it mildly amusing the amount of fan art I see where the artist will draw characters from any given series and be all "This is how they should be" or somethin' like that. It's like...you redesign all the characters and basically end up hatin' on the way they look now. Take Star Fox for instance. I can understand why some die-hard fans dislike the newer games. Wanna go back to pure ship fighting and all of that stuff. Personally I like the mix between the two. They are actual characters outside of the Arwings so it's nice to see that. That's why StarFox Assault is one of my favorite games.
That said, does no one think of the person who redesigns these characters for new games? I like the new designs for them. Hell, I'm also one of those people that really dig reboots of beloved series whether it's a video game like Tomb Raider or DMC or the Spider-Man movies. I like to see new directions. Is it just that people can't stand change? It's like most don't even give things a chance and say they are gonna suck or look awful right off the bat just because it's different from what they're used to. Yes, it's their opinion, I understand that. But a lot of these games and shows that get redesigns aren't redone by the original creators but by -fans- of that series who find themselves in a position to make their dream a reality. If you don't like the way somethin' is then do somethin' about it. It's not enough to draw your favorite characters the way you think they should be as opposed to the way they are now and rag on the new look. If you don't like the new look, work hard to put yourself in a position to change things around and get your idea out there.
I dunno just somethin' that bothers me a little bit when I see fan art. Especially on a site like this. "I don't like such and such show's new 'cartoony' or 'anime-ish' look" when you know damned well most of us found our way to the furry fandom through some cartoon series or another. It's nice to have a variety of looks for somethin' whether it's cartoony or "gritty (ugh...so brown and dull)". It's just so great how artists look down on so many other art styles like they're utter shit.
Well, anyway, I'm done rantin'. Probably got way off on a tangent somewhere in there but whatever. Journal. My mind. Spoken.

I agree with you. Change is good. If every character stayed the same from when they first started, it would get boring real fast. Sometimes people have a hard time adapting to it.

Some change is good. I can agree. Of course most of the complaints about these changes are usually due to nostalgia filter. But no matter I just try to enjoy all the things I love. Even if I have to listen to some idiots complain about the games I love to play. Like Final Fantasy XIII for example: I love it, but everyone else hates it, sometimes I can't understand why...

It's purists mainly. People stuck in the past because their current outlook is blique. How dare they tamper with precious memories!

You know what's a funny remake, Real Steel. It's cool how they've designed those Rock'em Sock'em Robots for the movie.

That movie...XD I saw that preview and my jaw dropped a little bit. Looks like it could be nifty. Also, if it -does- suck it -is- Hugh Jackman so I'm watchin' it anyway.

Yea, I wanna see it too, but as soon as I saw the robots in the movie, I just cracked up.

I know right?

Hm? I suppose it depends on the reasoning... I know I do this sorta thing, redesigning characters to incorporate things I want to see. But, it's usually just my way to brand my style to them, and to explore concepts. |D

That's simply awesome. I just don't think it's cool to redesign a character and then completely rag on the original you were redrawing.
