I guess I already knew this but on perusing cracked.com this morning I saw an article that reminded me:

The Empire State Building is so tall because it was designed as a mooring place for Zeppelins.

That is all.


This kind of blows my mind because the zeppelin as a useful means of transportation is such a foreign idea in our modern world, yet we have relics of the past such as this to remind us that at one time such fanciful transportation was seen as mankind's bright and shining future.
