Too true. I think that personally, I'm way too invested into religious and spiritual research and understanding to ever consider myself an "athiest", plus so many groups (not even just religious ones) have made it into a bad word. I prefer to call myself a Secular Humanist or more specifically a Universal Truthist. If nothing else, it tends to throw the religiously zealous off for a while, and makes for fun while they try to guess at what it means. =D

It is possible that Al is concerned about what Hillary has on him. Not all of those raw FBI files were on Republicans. Information in those files is not necessarily true, but could be very harmful, nevertheless. I think that he is correct in his apparent belief that he can do more for his causes in his present position.

What scares me most about Huckabee is that he does not believe in evolution despite the mountainous and magnitudinous piles of evidence. I seriously question the intelligence and rationality of someone who does not believe in evolution. Furthermore, do we really want someone this irrational to be running an entire country, let alone the biggest superpower in the world?

Most people with an IQ of 80 probably grasp that humans evolved from some other ape. Huckabee's (et all) problem is sanity - if he is telling the truth about his beliefs. If we are lucky, he is just another lying politician who will say whatever it takes to get elected. It is a terrible situation when we have to hope that presidential candidates are cold blooded liars rather than delusional...

He sure is! There is a fine editorial by Olsen on this awful turn for the Republican party in last Saturday/Sunday's Wall Street Journal on the page after the staff editorials. He points out that this is a fundamental departure from Goldwater-Reagan Republicanism, and discusses some of the unpleasant consequences.

All the horrors he will visit upon us will be in the name of good and rightousness. I hate this shit it makes all christians look like fucking psychos, and i am sick of it.

Another part of his support comes from those who understandably hate the IRS (where you are presumed guilty until you prove yourself innocent). What they don't realize is that his so-called "Fair Tax" would confiscate about 30% of nearly all existing savings - even savings on which income taxes have already been paid. Read the fine print in the bill introduced to the House and Senate early in 2007; I sure have. He is a big tax and spender, and is conservative only in his religious and social views, not his economics or view of a limited role for government. He is very bad news, indeed!

Great reasons for electing a President! Seriously, he does have one big advantage over Hillary: I haven't seen any convincing evidence that he is a career criminal, whereas Hillary is a crook. The odds of her cattle futures "trades" being legit are about 1,000,000,000 to 1 against. The decay of constitutional limitations on government power has inevitably attracted a lot of criminals - in both the Republicrats and Demipublicans.

My big concern about Obama is that, because he IS idealistic and wants to "change" everything, that he will end up making things worse in the long run by undermining the rules that keep the real crooks in check. Basically exactly what Bush has done, but with different motives and possibly as disasterous results.

There's going to be compromises and politics involved no matter what you do--after all, this IS supposed to be a government FOR and OF the "people", and when everybody has a say, you can't get total agreement. Idealism is a good thing, but it's also seductively dangerous.

Having said that, I will also point out that there will always be crooks in politics and one man with a vision and some integrity is better than none!

You are unfortunately probably right about Obama. If he really believes his populist rhetoric, he could do a lot of economic damage. People who truly believe that they are on a mission - whether from god or \"the people\" - tend to be the most dangerous. To my mind, Ron Paul would be the least dangerous president because he takes the constitutional limits on government very seriously.

Except, as I understand it, he's still backward on social issues because of his Republicanism. (Thinks gays are bad, women need to have their reproductive issues handled for them...etc) There's not one candidate who isn't screwed up or backward in one respect or another. We need a Furry President!!!

I'd love to see a gay furry president, but Ron Paul is the next best thing. If government were confined to its constitutional limits, it would be far less of a threat. We have gotten to where we are now because people -right and left - foolishly believed that a huge all powerful government could do so many good things if the correct people were running it. I do not like any of the Democratic Candidates, The Hildebeast scares the crap out of me, and I am sorry, I do not want to sound like a racist, but this country is not ready for a black president. I wish things were different and that more people were accepting, but that is just the way it is.

That said, I also do not like any of the Republican Candidates either, except for Rudy, and that is only because of how well he took charge after 9/11.

I think we'd be fine with a black president, but not Obama. He doesn't actually stand for anything, and he's just a cult of personality right now.

Some of the Dems are pretty scary. A lot of the gun registration ideas and weapon bans have always historically lead to seizure. Even in California, when they required that certain firearms with certain features be registered, and guaranteed that they would not take them, they ended up taking them later. They provided reimbursement that former firearm owners may even be able to cash in for a small fraction of what their original firearm was worth before. I'm afraid that the firearm registration plans will do the same. Hillary helped draft a bill that would outlaw any ammunition capable of penetrating any armor vest, which would technically be almost all of them. Obama has stated already once he's president, none of his subjects will need any firearms.

Rudy is just as bad on the 2nd Amendment, and McCain and Thompson voted to terminate much of out core First Amendment rights to criticize politicians in any effective manner.
