Can I do a little bragging for a moment?

I ALWAYS feel lucky to have my dogs, but I'm feeling particularly lucky and proud of them as of lately, for no real reason other then the fact that they're MINE.
As most of you know, we just recently adopted a Blue Heeler, Marlin, and if you don't know, well, you do know :D This was a big change for Charlotte, who is use to having us all to herself and is real picky about who her dog friends are. I'm extremely proud of her for accepting him so quickly and allowing him to share her space with little to no fuss. The very few and rare occurrences where there has been tension, I'm proud of her for backing off and avoiding conflict without me even having to say anything.
I'm proud of Marlin for being so gentle and respectful of Charlotte, and treating her like the queen she thinks she is. I think it's really good for her head. I think part of her issue with other dogs is a fear issue, and I think having Marlin around, who has become protective of her, has made her feel more comfortable over all. You can see the change in her. She's soo much happier and at ease with the world. I'm proud of how well they communicate with each other. They do it better then a lot of people I know.
I'm proud of Marlin and how quickly he adapted to us and came to trust us. I know he's extremely loyal to his old owner and his first night here was very, very difficult for him. I'm proud of how well his listens to us when we ask him to do something.
This living arrangement is exactly how I had hoped it would turn out, and I couldn't possibly be happier. I feel like the luckiest person alive to have these two dogs! :D

Charlotte is, Marlin isn't. And I'm going to keep it that way. You can have intact dogs, so long as you're responsible.

I'm kind of glad to see other people thinking this way, a lot of times neutering is a solution to all problems for some reason. Your dog is intact, he must mark all over the house. Nooo my dog is housetrained, he would never pee in the house, yes he marks but never ever inside a house. etc etc and so on. Most reasons to neuter are bogus and dogs use the testosterone to help their bones grow correctly and such. I can definitely see why it's an issue for most owners to get it done though because there's too many owners that can't handle the responsibility of keeping your dog near you and not letting it roam all over. Obviously mistakes happen and if my dog ever escapes and manages to find a dog in heat that's unattended I would definitely help pay for surgeries (if needed) and help home all the puppies and stuff. I don't know it's sad that people see my dog is intact and I feel like they think I'm a bad owner just because I don't feel like putting my dog through surgery when at this time it's not causing any problems.

I advocate spaying and neutering in MOST cases, because most people aren't willing to put fourth the extra responsibility that's required to take care of an intact dog. But I am, and the way I see it is that my dog is 6 years old and has been intact his whole life. Why change that now? If some weird behavior issues spawn as a result of him being intact, then I'll neuter him, but for now it's not needed.

Agreed, although it might be getting to that point with my dog unfortunately but I wanted to go to training and work on behavioral with the trainer before hand ;^; although I think the trainer at my job is like $300 for 6-8 classes which is a bit steep but being a stubborn shiba he needs a lot of work ahaha.
