it is, actually. from a specific point in Fallout: NV's latest DLC; where you cannot progress from one part of the map to another without getting locked in place at a particular exit/doorway. you can't console command your way out of it, and all you can do is revert to your prior save point[hopefully you're not relying on autosave like I was xD] and I guess just. dick around until they release a patch or sommat.
Man.. I just gave on on NV's DLC. In the Burning Man one at some point after immediately arriving I got no quest prompt. Like... at all. Everything was hostile and I eventually killed everyone. Including the guy I came to know as the burning man himself. Having no idea what was going on and having been convinced I was stuck with every NPC I could find dead I reverted to an old save and give up! I haven't played it since.
mannn... that actually happened to me on the Honest Hearts DLC as well; no quest prompt and just hostility from even my fellow caravaners. reverting to a previous save point seemed to fix the lack of a quest and the hostility issues, but I seem to now have an issue where unexplored locations will keep appearing and then disappearing off of my compass. still haven't found everything in that map, but I gave up since it lagged like there was no tomorrow and didn't really have anything else that was engaging.
Old World Blues, IMHO, is the only Fallout NV DLC worth playing- it's not only fun, but it's pretty entertaining. especially if you have the wild wasteland perk.
This sense of idealism does not work for us without internets at the house (at the library to do my work)
D:
Companies relying on DLC to keep their products in the lime-light isn't a -bad- idea sense internet holders are a majority, but it really screws over people without the access. I got a literal pile of games (mostly from EA, those bastards) that I cant even play solo cause they require me to be online to play offline.
That too. I can see them wanting to ensure their profits, seriously, I do. But have it for multi-player, where you kind of, you know, need to be online anyways. Dont keep screwing over the little guy that saved up his tips for 6 months to preorder a game cause only the preorder had some special weapon, only to find out A)they cant unlock the game without the net B)they cant even play solo player without the net.
oh yeah, definitely. I know of quite a few people who live in remote areas and would looove to bring some of their favorite games up with them to pass the time, but they can't due to no internet connection. or at least a stable one. as much as I hate Steam, it, fortunately, does let you play games in offline mode. and most of my games come from there. <3
but yeah, it's really unfair to that portion of the gaming market and they're also missing out on some revenue. the same could also be said for the video rental market too; not everyone has Netflix. or internet. or is particularly keen on pirating a movie.
Steam does? Cause I would looovveee to play some of their games offline (I know TF2 requires online for obvious reasons, but not sure about Torchlight).
Yup, same here for that too. No netflix, net, or anything like that. I just wait till it's a WalMart $5 or Target $10 if it's good enough. :/
like this one time, in Fallout 3- walking into a ruined building where all the charred skeletons were hovering several in-game feet off the floor. xD
so long as they don't interrupt the gameplay, I, personally, don't mind too much. it's just when you have game breaking glitches like getting stuck every time you exit through a particular doorway[this doorway being the only one that leads to the next section of the game].
I had the epitome of gameplay interruption bugsonce. This one was impossible to break free of without loading a new save.
In New Vegas I attacked Caesar and immediately got chain punched by those nifty Ballistic Fist weapons his guards used and was near death after one attack cycle. So... I tried to run out as fast as I could to pick up my allies to see if they could kite them as I ran around in circles. I never made it that far. At some point I was actually killed just before the screen transition so when I loaded the next area I immediately fell to my death.
In comes the infinite death loop.
The first death was normal. I fell to the ground and the game loaded the previous autosave.
From that point on the havoc engine flipped out. I didn't just fall. My body liquified. By the time I hit the ground every little piece of my body started rolling away leaving a texture trail that stretched out as if it was being pulled. After a while the auto save started to load again and then the cycle continued indefinitely onwards.
hoooly crap, that's amazing. I don't know if I'd laugh or be frustrated- or laughing frustratedly. they almost don't even need a 'wild wasteland' perk when they have their bugs and glitches to do the work for them.
that easily beats the time where the havoc engine screwed up the body explosion effects, so every critical head shot I made resulted in the NPC being frozen in place, their head in mid-explosion; giant, googly eyes, huge lips and teeth... like a creepy puppet. xD
naw, I was leaving the Cave of the Abaddon in the Lonesome Road DLC, which you have to go through to get to the next part of the game. the only other way is to toggle clipping off and fly your way over a bunch of fallen buildings and rubble.
basically, you're in an old building that's mostly underground, and you have to go through a doorway to exit into the next section. you can exit just fine; game loads perfectly, saves, etc. but then you'll find you're completely stuck. as in, unable to access your Pip-Boy, use your weapon, or even move in a direction that isn't a 360 degree spin. even toggling clipping doesn't work, and neither does teleporting to the next quest location[I ended up appearing IN Ulysses, still unable to move]. reverting to your last save point is really your only option[and not the autosaved save point, since that will just put you back where you were stuck to begin with]. but that doesn't discount the fact that you actually can't finish the DLC since you can't move from one section of the map to another without getting glitched up.
Laaaaaame sauce. I dont have any of FO:NV's DLC (No money, no space on the HD). They look fun, but I'm really starting to hate on companies that release a game and then an expansion within a year. I -LOVE- expansion packs, but not when it came out so soon, you KNOW they were working on it before the release. Just feels like a way to scam a second game's worth of money for a bit of extra. Then after 2 expansions are out, they do a 2-pack. Then eventually, a "Full Expansion" 4-pack edition. Then a "Game of the Year" edition that has the game and the Full Expansion for a bit cheaper. :/
admittedly, I was a little tentative about getting the DLCs as they were being released, since I know there's going to be a GotY edition with all of the expansions thrown in. but. I was also pretty stressed with work at the time, and they were much needed distractions for $9.99 a pop. but it is true that they moreorless plan these things from the start and go into it knowing they can milk as much money out of their userbase as possible.
though I think Blizzard really has it down to an art, especially with how each race's campaign is its own separate game to be purchased.
True that.. but with the StarCraft2 (series I think applies here), each race is getting a huge, expansive story, some movies in it, special levels (I think?), and I think they might even have new characters/units for all 3 classes when the new games are released. Plus, it's not like their comming out 4-8 months apart from eachother where it's like "Okay, just hold off and smoosh them together guys".
With Blizzard, I tend to give them a bit more lee-way just cause they take longer to do things, dont have NEARLY as many glitches, and upgrade EVERYTHING when they do get new ones out. With the Fallout Series, I think they realized with Fallout3 you can mass-produce DLC expansions and sell them out like cheap hookers >:I
Ah, Fallout, how silly you are with your glitches. Really, far too many games have these silly easy to fix bugs that the creators could fix, if there was only a beta test. Would save them money too, to release a beta test (open or closed) and let people play and report bugs. XD Hell, if anything, it would make them money, cause personally, I don't like buying games unless I can at the least watch some one else play. And I know a lot of budgeted gamers feel the same, seeing as, a demo allows you to try a game before buying. XD
Still, most gamers come to expect fucked up glitches in bethesda games, it's like, not a staple of why people get one, to expect glitches, like your pet robo-dog suddenly learning how to fly, at the cost of knowing how to walk (yes, happened to me in FO:NV). XD
yeeeappp.... good old Bethesda and their glitches- I can deal with 99% of them, just not when. you go through a doorway to get to the next part of a quest/location and EVERY SINGLE TIME you get stuck in the same spot, unable to do anything more than spin around in a circle and crouch- not even tcl via the command console will fix it. and if you try to just teleport to the next quest location to get out of it, you spawn on top of an NPC or some random /object/ and you're still dealing with the same issue as before.
my favorite Fallout glitch has to be getting fireblasted off my feet by a MIRELURK.
Hahaha, yeah, now and days, glitches are a good perk to games. Some, like you stated, suck horribly and really need to be fixed. But occasionally, you get games like Red Dead Redemption, with the super epic glitches that made the game all the more. Just look at glitches for the game on youtube, there are tons of awesome ones, like Pumaman, and the rideable donkey woman. XD
It is.. till it conviniently "forgets" that you found 3 of the super-hard-to-find treasures, a few achievements, and 6 or so missions. Then, after redoing them, it forgets again. And again. Still haven't beaten all the side quests in that game v_v
hahahahaha, yeah. I watched my partner complete the same quest three times in a row. xD
but it also just. looks like its a blast to play and just dick around in, like GTA. I don't think I've ever beaten a single GTA game, but I do so love driving around, stealing cars, and causing other sorts of mayhem. <3
It's better than GTA in many ways, but like the American south west, there is a lot of the same nothingness to it. But you play fallout games, so it'll be just like home. 8D Tons of vast wasteland full of coyotes and puma and flying bears to ruin your day. Oh, also, don't get attached to your horses, they uh, tend to spontaneously die, get killed by wolves/pumas easy, and more than once watched one causally trot onto train tracks as the train is coming while you are busy skinning something.
Also, be prepared to fall in love with John Marstons voice, cause it is <3 and nice in so many ways, plus he is a smart ass.
You going to get SaintsRow: The Third Nov 15th? Like GTA4, but fun. And with crazy humor. And apparently a hover-bike. *spas* I'm totally preordering that. The funny chaos level is going to be crazy high :o
Hahah, that's nothing, I beat the whole game, all 100% of it, even all the challenges, before I realized, I didn't have 100% cause the California quest, where you help the dude on his way to cali, never updated itself NOR reset itself, so I was stuck with 98% of the game complete.
lawl, well you won't come across all the glitches, like the crow people, on your game, but there are plenty of awesome glitches. Like the time i watched a horse take off running down the road with half of it's body in the ground. Or the time I watched a rabbit start to fly away into the air like a bird, before realizing it wasn't a bird and falling to the ground with a loud squeak of pain upon impact.
Lol, that's priceless ^_^ I dont mind glitches, long as they dont screw with my character, my gear, or my missions. Soon as it makes a mission harder, I turn into the Incredible Bulk and wanna smash everything. But I dont. Cause I dont have money to replace it. /:I
Yeah it pissed me off, cause I have to start all over again to get it. And my roommates wonder why i make multiple new saves and never 'go back to delete them later at least' and stuff. XD
Yup! Multiple saves are the way to go, for sure! With any of my Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic or GTA/Saints Row games, I got like minimum, a dozen saves, just to be sure. Red Dead Redemption didnt allow that to my knowledge though :c
Yeah, it didn't I don't think, but my roommate, he is a shooter game kinda guy, not so much a 'fantasy' game person. Mostly cause, he doesn't have the time to sit and play a game like Fallout 3 or New Vegas for long. So he can't understand the multiple saves thing well since all the games he play, auto save around every few corners and every objective complete. XD
and what is with game engines of late that have some seriously borked collision detection and clipping? it's almost like they're trying to make funny glitches on purpose.
Now and days, it's not about lack of glitches and stories, it's ALL about the brand new gimmic they can pawn off on the masses, usually graphics or some new 'concept that will revolutionize game play'. Case in point, I got Dead Island, AWESOME game, beautiful graphics, the kinda shit you'd love, with making spiked bats and stuff. But GAWDS is the game3 glitchy and seems unfinished.
They really didn't fix a lot of bugs/glitches, or think things through, like in the room you start in, there is a vase on the table with a plant in it. You can punch that vase and it shatters, but the plant stays there, floating in the air. Also if you pick something up, say, a box of juice, place it on the back of a pickup truck with a full bed (holds 4 items, say, 4 boxes of juice), then drive a few yards, then get out, you look at it and it will be floating there. XD
haha thats awesome :) I can't agree more with ya. Just got New vegas hoping it wouldn't have as many bugs as Fallout 3......I was so wrong lol Maybe its cause Bethesda tries not to delay there games like everyone else, even though that does ensure the game is complete and free of bugs.
well. in all actuality, Bethesda's latest DLC was delayed multiple times. xD
but I guess even with all the delays, they still couldn't find the one bug that locks your character in place.
it's nice to be able to expect games to be released when they say they will, but it's even nicer to expect games to be reasonably playable. and you'd think with all the experiences they've had regarding bugs in Fallout 3, that Bethesda would work towards eliminating them from the next game- instead of adding newer and interesting ones. they're both incredibly fun games, but between crashing to Windows all the time and finding myself completely stuck in place, it's starting to kill off any urge to really play them at all.
Fallout: Glitch Vegas. Playing the game is a gamble!
It's almost fucking impossible to finish a quest without having to console hack you way through, I found. I was expecting it to play like an addon to fallout 3, and I was right. :t
I had three quests I had to console hack my way through finishing. mostly because a. the item/person/whomever I was looking for wasn't there, or b. the person giving me the quest would suddenly become a random NPC with no dialogue options.
or I would just be unable to talk to them entirely, like with my last NV game/whole reason why I ended up starting over.
I was expecting it to be pretty much like Fallout 3, but with the hope that Bethesda would've improved upon the issues most users were having with the third installment.
Mine typically were clipping issues and other things like the companions randomly hauling ass away from me and then reappearing 15 minutes later. Also had fun stuff like a dead radscorpion popping out of the ground to fly around in front of me.
And yeah, for some reason when I started the quest Victor was dead. Like, competely randomly dead at the very beginning of the game.
The only real upshot is that they did a bit better with some of the mechanics of the game that needed improving, but I mean, fuck. The bugginess of it all. D:
Fallout New Vegas has more bugs than the kicthen of my local kebab house, but it has a pump action shotgun in it, and I feel this in some way balances that out...
I wanted to like that gun, God knows I tried. But it just seemed so bizarrely underpowered for a gun that SHOOTS TEN INCH NAILS AT ONE THOUSAND MILES AN HOUR INTO YOUR FACE. Most conventional weapons seemed to be more effective, especially against tougher or higher level enemies. :C
lol this reminds me of my experience with fallout 3. Everytime I wanted to play the game on the PC it would crash at least 5 times and that was AFTER downloading the patch.
have you tried playing in windowed mode and/or using Windows7?
I have a perpetual issue with FO3 crashing straight to desktop upon loading every single time in Win 7, which made me switch to my laptop which runs on XP. I was having similar issues, only this time after I would get some gameplay in before it would crash, and I recalled that it seemed to crash a lot less if I changed the settings to 'windowed' on my previous desktop computer, and it's moreorless worked. still crashes to desktop, but usually after I've been playing it for several hours straight.
I always wonder about that. I think the glitch gremlin goes after certain games for certain folks. I haven't had a single problem with my DLC for NV. But my poor poor Farcry 2 is STILL unbeaten because it glitches out so bad on me and I've just gotten tired of restarting the game.

Out of curiosity, being a gamer, was this prompted from something specific?

that, and it does the used game industry a serious blow.
That's just low. :c

the industrial fist is pretty badass too- combines everything you loved about the powerfist and the chainsaw into one handy weapon.

ZEE PATCH, IT DOES NOTHING.
