Halloween Horror Nights Preview Night Review!

If you want, you may call me Mangy, but pronounce the 'G'!
Went with
xbit to Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights 21 this year!
We got to see everything there so that was the first awesome part. Overall I'm going to say the Houses beat the Scare Zones this year. Maybe thats why the Motto this year is, The House always Wins.
Houses
Winter's Night: A cold cemetery, they did really well on the construction of it. You get the foam snow at the facade's entrance. Theres gargoyle statues that come to life, corpses rising out of dirt. Pretty cool set up.
The Thing: Theres going to be remake, or prequel... to the original 80's movie. The Thing is the scariest horror movie personally I've ever seen. Tentacles exploding out of a dog's head or body parts tearing themselves apart and growing claws are just terrifying. So I was expecting much out of this house. Maybe the house still had technical issues to work on but I really didn't see much of the great distorted bodies the movie had. The only cool mask I had I get right up to see. The only person to scare me in the house was a woman with a pistol. So this house was a bit of a let down.
Nightingales: A military themed house. Basically all the nurse medics have become cannibals. They were rather vicious in this house XD. Cool masks. My favorite part was the room where one of the nurses is stomping around a platform lined with corpses.
HR Bloodengutz: Each year HHN usually has atleast one joke house. This one took a silly theme of turning holidays into horror-days. Not one of them terrified me and I actually burst out laughing when I saw Zombie Lincoln in the President's day room.
Saws and Steam: Oh man I loved this one so much. I was marveling the whole time at all the Steampunk in this house. And as I was distracted by the cool and gruesome mechanics of the maze I got caught off gaurd all the time by the scare actors. One got right in my face and I jumped so bad. Seriously, amazing set. Especially at the end with the cascading water in the strobe light and the big scuba gear drill guy behind it.
Nevermore: This how is built from the stories of Edgar Allan Poe. Its very awesome work if you are familiar with his literature. I recognized several stories in the very crafty and unique rooms. Fall of the House of Usher, The Raven, The Tell Tale Heart, The Red Death, The Cask of Amontillado, there were crazy Poes roaming the house too.
The Forsaken: Cursed drowned conquistadors want revenge. They had shiny helmets, and some had nifty masks with glowing green eyes. There was a tilted room too at the end. Not bad.
The Inbetween: Woah.. now this house was pretty crazy. I got jumped like 5 or 6 times. They give you 3D glasses for this house too. So you're starring everywhere at all the crazy images and all the monsters blend in so well. Crazy... crazy...
ScareZones
Acid Assault: everyone has melted faces, but alot of them dress like civilians so they can really sneak up on ya.
Your Luck Has Run Out: This is supposed to be Lady Luck's scare zone. Its neat how they have 3 identical lady lucks standing on balconies at the same time. But the actual scare actors have super lousy masks that look like angry anime girls. The zone was super short too.
NightMaze: It was a neat concept to make a changing scarezone where black panels could switch and move... but I really never felt it was a maze. They did get me though.
Grown Evil: Bird people, was pretty good, their costumes blended in very well.
Canyon of Dark souls: Felt like Canyon of Skeletor really. Masks were cool though... I think you only got attacked if you were moving fast apparently.
7: I picked up on the theme and I think the Scare Actors were actually impressed that I did. ^^ They don't explain these things in the brochure really. This is a long scarezone. There are 7 thrones and each one has a cursed woman representing a Deadly Sin. She also has two accompanying body gaurds that will come after you while you're distracted by the creative sets. Vanity tried to stab me with Mirror shards. Lust had a burnt face cause I guess shes too hot. Sloth looked like a zombie with her face melting off in a yawn, it was hilarious how she flops on her couch. Envy is all green and snake like. Greed has a shiny jingly dress, wrath had a thrown of swords and was cut up in scars, gluttony was a chubby black chick that ate shit. XD (she could've been fatter...)
Bill and Ted show
This is the Parody pop culture show they do every year. I was pretty uninterested in the overly cartoony Green Alien guy. Not sure why they made Nicki Minaj a hillbilly... but she redeemed herself in the final dance number. They did Kesha's hair all wrong. Needed to be shaggier and with a tampon sticking out of it. I was surprised they didn't make any Casey Anthony references but did go ahead and blow Bin Laden up with an Angry Bird. Totally called the Sucker Punch parody though, I thought it was pretty hilarious to turn them into girl scouts.

FA+

Where as a house you have to wait in line for and can take only one path through their sets.
