I always post the first reminder as soon as I get the notice that the room block and prereg are opened (this year I was a tad late waited til April). You can watch  furfright for updates on the Book of the Dead, I usually post one every month.

War themed pics? That seems a little concerning....is it really appropriate to use the wars as content for a Halloween art book? I mean I'm not sure what war has to do with Halloween-it's all about spirits and the occult, not so much actual war and bloodshed.

Oh dear lord, scratch that-it goes to war dogs. Which is...about as close to supporting the troops as furries will get, so, yay I guess? Lol.

It's not about troops or politics, it's all about helping heroic dogs who need our help. I think this will explain a bit better.

I don't really care dude. Furries wanna help dogs instead of soldiers, whatever. I figure the life of a soldier is worth more, but not to this crowd lol. What's 70 years compared to 7?!

It's not about helping one or the other. Anyone (furs and non-furs) can actually help BOTH. This particular charity is run by veterans who want to help the dogs they served with, and the ones who continue to serve. Both the people and dogs are "soldiers", and both serve and risk/sacrifice their lives. They're BOTH deserving of support and honor.

They're just dogs lol. Never understood why people go so crazy for something that only lives 8 years-they're cute n all, but they're not choosing to serve or anything, they're just trained animals.

But everyone's entitled to their own opinions I guess.

Yup, trained animals that save the lives of tens of thousands of human beings. People who were drafted in wartime didn't 'choose' to serve either, but that doesn't mean they didn't sacrifice everything and serve with honor.

But you're right, everyone's got their own opinions on life and how they value it. That's what makes america so "great". LOL

There hasn't been a draft in 40 years lol. Everyone who currently serves made a choice, they weren't forced in.

You should read up on the actual charity before passing judgement in the future. It would make you sound a lot less ignorant.

The charity helps both the animals AND humans who participate in military action. How is that not the same as supporting troops?

Also, I hardly think that pointing out your logical fallacy is equivalent to being 'butthurt.' Slinging random insults when you've been proven wrong is a far greater indicator of that.

You know, the fur fright live journal has been advertising this pretty much since April so... there was plenty of time to get at least something done. Just saying.

what? There is no competition. It's an art book that gets auctioned off for charity every year at Fur Fright. Artists donate themed artwork submissions to the book. Everyone gets in.

Yes there is.  Saint_Ajax opened a public competition for writers to get published into a book titled 'Holidays'. Stories that revolves around holidays within a year and only one holiday was given out to public for competition, a chance to be published in fur fright; The Day of The Dead.

I entered into the competition for a chance to be published but lost.

That isn't the same thing as the Book of the Dead that is made every year for the Fur Fright convention in Connecticut. Fen is promoting the Book of the Dead for http://www.furfright.org/ not Saint_Ajax's "Holidays" Anthology.

The Book of the Dead is not the same book as the "Holidays" Anthology. The anthology might be on sale in the dealers room at fur fright. I can't say for sure.

The Book of the Dead will be auctioned off at the Fur Fright charity auction, where all money paid for it will go to the War Dogs charity. As far as I know, there is only one copy of Fur Fright's Book of the Dead sold each year and each year it's a different version of the book because the artists who send in artwork to fill the Book of the Dead are usually not the same as the year before.

It isn't about war, or politics, or any of that crap. It's about heroic dogs who need and DESERVE our help. They've been treated tragically, and have never been properly cared for, honored, or remembered. FurFright, and everything we do for our charity, is aimed to change that.
