True, but not to the same extent for all species. Some species where the female has multiple pairs of nipples and the litter can expect a high fatality rate are seeing even more atrophy of the male mammary tissue than humans show. Male rats don't have distinct nipples.

I'll have to remember the part about being able to get women to lactate after several months of massaging and sucking. I'm a breast man and I like lactation, so put 2 and 2 together and this is a good fact for me to know.

Back to the topic at hand though, I knew that guys could get breasts due to cancers and medications, I just didn't know that they could lactate too.

Inducing Male Lactation

According to recent studies (Macadam in Compleat Mother), a significant part of lactation is psychological; a will to breastfeed is a major part in being able to provide milk for an infant. Doctors thus recommend the following program to encourage lactation in males, although male lactation in humans is not recommended unless necessary for the care of an infant.

1. Believe in lactation. Males should try to imagine their nipples producing milk. Often, a rhythm of doing this works, modeled after the feeding times of a normal wet nurse.

2. Arouse the nipples regularly. At the same time as imagining lactation, a male should exercise and arouse his nipples. A tugging should occur at regular intervals (every two to three seconds) for a period of fifteen to twenty minutes. Soreness is likely, but it is necessary.

3. Ingest a healty, balanced diet with a lot of protein. The male body will basically be releasing protein, so consuming a strong diet with protein supplementation will help with the biochemical needs of lactation.

Huh, I heard that you could induce lactation by taking the active birth control pills and eating certain herbs. Don't have any anecdotal evidence for the sucking/massage thing. You'd think more hookers would be leaking in that case, no?

In some 3rd world country a father (the mother died, or was killed I think) ended up breast feeding his baby by accident when the baby kept trying to feed. I guess thats one reason we have them, for backup lol

Well. I don't know how true it is. But awhile back when I read up on stuff like this at 5:00am out of sleep depravation and absolute bordom I read that if you bought an electric breast pump. That a guy could hook it up to himself for a few minutes a day and eventually the "suckling" from the machine itself could induce lactation.

Since I only pretty much concidered it as an interesting "Oh that's neat. I didn't know that" note of info I don't know how spot on it is. But something similar like what Nitro said I read about this clan, gang or whatever of monks who were pretty much male wet nurses. Weird yet interesting eh?

Also read that men who are POW's can lactate too out of malnourishment.

Goes to show how close and simple minded as humans we are. Thinking we know eveything. Yet we've pretty much only scratched the surface.

Men can lactate small quantities, but the body is incapable of making enough milk to even begin to breastfeed. Suddenly starve yourself and the hormone shift in you will cause you to lactate. Also if you continually massage and stimulate the nipples, it can cause lactation.

But, once again, it's impossible for a man to actually do enough to breastfeed.

There are numerous stories of men breastfeeding successfully throughout history. Most are quoted on that page I linked above, including this one. Not that it really matters much in this case. We're mostly talking about fetish lactation anyway. Yum!

Colombo - A 38-year-old Sri Lankan man, whose wife had died three months ago, appears to have the ability to breastfeed his two infant daughters, doctors said on Wednesday.

The man, from the central town of Walapone, lost his wife during childbirth.

"My eldest daughter refused to be fed with powdered milk liquid in the feeding bottle.

"I was so moved one evening and to stop her crying I offered my breast. I then realised that I was capable of breastfeeding her," the man admitted.

Dr Kamal Jayasinghe, deputy director of a Sri Lankan government hospital, was quoted as saying it was possible for men to produce milk if the prolactine hormone became hyperactive. - Sapa-AFP

I've known about that for a while, and have kept it in mind. Should I ever settle down and have a kid, I'd want to work with my wife and take turns feeding the baby.
