Well...hm...you know.....Bad English Version© (XD).
We are in the 2008...4 years 'till the 2012. The year of the End of The World. In the Mayan Prophesies, they talk about the end of an era, not of the humanity itself....but the 90% of the people of the earth are scared about it; the 9% don't care about it; and we, the 1%, are waiting 'till that year arrives.
It's like the Tarot cards...when you read it and come Death's card, the (guy/girl that wanted to know it's destiny) open more his/her eyes and his/her heart begins to acceletare.
Wizard : Oh, look, death's card. That's a good...
(G/GTWTKID) : OMFG!! O.o I don't wanna die T^T
Wizard : Calm down. It's just...
(G/GTWTKID) :Mooooooomyyyy!!!!! *ran out of the room*
In the Tarot...the Death's Card (straight) means the finish of some event and the beginning of something new (not really a Death of some one).
It's the same with the 2012. It's the end of an era, but the beginning of a new one. I'm nervious and ansious for that year. I can feel the coming of millions of Golden Dragons (methaphor).
