this might be an bug related to windows vista. its the worst OS i have ever seen and it has problems with maintaining USB and internet connections at times.
really wouldnt surprise me if that is the problem... i have never heard that before though

yeah XD i haven't had any other problems with vista personally but i hear about it a lot.
if it ends up being vista then all hope is lost for me. lol

 Adjot had this problem with windows7 , drivers tended to stop working on boot up. Although he was on Windows 7 so probably related slightly since Vista and 7 are similar but vastly different at the same time.

if he's having similar problems with 7 then upgrading probably won't do me any good. XD

He uses an Intuos 4 large, and it may help you but then again may not. It's a chance.

I use Windows 7 and an Intuos 3. I guess I have good luck with technology, because I've had no issue.

maybe i just have bad luck, lol. i've had this problem since XP.

No, Vista is actually pretty bad.

It's not Vista! I think this is a pretty common problem with Intuos 3 & 4, I think the issue is that they have shabby drivers. You're using the newest ones and not the ones that came with it, right?

I used the old ones for the majority of my tablet's lifespan (5 years i think), and upgraded to the new ones about a year or so ago. They started doing some really funky things to my computer. Sensitivity didn't want to work right, mapping was WAY off.. and other weird junk.

I do think the drivers are junk; I've tried most of them and the ones that seem to hold out the longest are the older ones that Wacom offers. The new ones seem to blow up on me. :x

I think this is actually a Wacom problem, as this happened on my Intuos 2, my Graphire, and also I believe my PenParter in everything from Windows 95/98 through Vista. Yet, my newer tablet, a Monoprice brand one, does not do this. It sucks in most other ways though, LOL.

I'm curious, do you have a Compaq? I'm kind of wondering if maybe it's actually their doing, as most of the computers I've had have been Compaq's.

My old Graphire did this as well. lol So it's looking more like a Wacom problem than a Vista problem from what a few people have said.

Don't have a Compaq; didn't even know what it was until I looked it up. xD; I'm using a Dell XPS630.

LOL! Compaq's suck, that much I know. Hopefully the next machine I buy will be less sucky. >_> I won't be getting a Dell either, that much is for certain. Waaaay too expensive for what they are. Had I that kind of money, I'd just buy the parts and slap a new machine together on my own. XD

I use a Wacom Intuos 4, medium. Right now I'm running Windows 7 and haven't had this issue yet, but when I hook the same tablet up to my netbook running Windows XP, I have the problem that you are talking about roughly once every other week. It doesn't uninstall itself exactly, but it will suddenly not recognize my tablet, so I either restart the computer or unplug the tablet and plug it back in, and then all my preferences reset to default. This is very irritating, and I don't like to use that netbook with my tablet anymore.

see my post down. Your problem is the one I had, except I didn't have to restart the computer... it just.. forgot. pissed me off royally. My fix is down below. Only good for backing up and resetting the preferences mind but. hey. works. (I have changed what the shortcut buttons do, so yeah, pain in the ass to forget settings)

maybe it's time to upgrade. otherwise, you can go to the wacom support. they were incredibly helpful with helping me through my problems installing the driver on a mac.

I have a bamboo.. still a wacom product.
Not sure how to help you keep it from happening, I had a slightly... easier issue.. it would just forget my settings. (and I have 2 screens... yup...mapping to both screens just doesn't work!)
However. I set a shortcut to restore the settings. (you can save em. )
To tell you the truth I think my problems went away after a update in win7... it doesn't do it quite as much now.

anyways. tablet preference utility of sorts should be on your computer I think.
Check under my programs in the start menu... should be a folder related to your tablet.... mine says bamboo. (durr I haz a bamboo)

You can make a shortcut to the file it makes.. name it something obvious.you don't need to open the preference utility everytime to get to the *restore* bit. Just double clicking on the file will ask if you want to replace the current preferences with the one on the file. I threw a shortcut on my desktop on the monitor I use for artz.

mind that only backups your preferences...
