Cellular Degradation

My cell phone is toast!
Actually, it works fine...but the screen is solid white, so while I can call out I have to guess at what number I've scrolled down to. And I have no idea who's calling me.
So I stopped at the AT&T store on my way home last night to ask if they knew what was wrong and if there was an easy fix...or any fix. The lady looked up my records and said, "It says here that you've had that cell phone since, like, 2006!" She sounded horrified, as if I had been neglecting some sacred duty by not upgrading my handset every 6 months or something. I mean, it was less than 2 years old! October '06 to January '08. I have underwear older than this cell phone!
She continued to explain that the phone must be "going out", being so old and decrepid, I guess. Soooooooo...I have to get a new cell phone. Bel ordered me one, but in the meantime I'm using one of our old ones--so for the time being I have my cat ringtone back. I always loved that one.
I then discovered that I had apparently been saving all my numbers to the old phone's memory rather than to the SIM card...so I lost all my numbers. I can still access them on the old phone, but since I can't see them, they don't do me any good. (BTW--if you want me to have your phone number again, please write and give it to me. Thanks!)
Still, I just can't believe the crappy way things are manufactured these days. I'll bet the first cell phone I ever had would still work fine today--it was a bit of a brick and had no style, but it was built! I mean, where would the crew of the Enterprise be if Jean-Luc touched his Communicator and it fell apart? Or if Kirk flipped open his Communicator and the cover flew off and hit Spock in the eye??? For the sake of our future--PLEASE start building things better again! Like the old TV sets with big knobs that worked for 20 years rather than the ones today with NO controls (other than the remote) that work for 6 months and then explode. No wonder the landfills are full!

yeah, my lil bro has a piece of shit phone. we sent it in and they gave him a new one, not much better, but whatever. about a month later, they tell us there was nothing wrong with his phone and say to bring the new one back under penalty of like $100. when we get his phone back, there's this big huge scratch on the screen and numerous others littering the thing
Sorry, couldn't resist. >_>
I'm still using a 5 watt analog Motorola lunch box phone that I've had for a dozen years or so. It is the only cell phone that will go through a pass in a mountain range and reach my home over 50 miles away from my biggest ranch. All analog service will be discontinued this coming September, and none of the phone companies will guarantee that their digital phones will work from my ranch to my home, and the coverage maps show that my ranch is in analog only territory. So the phone company will lose my $480 per year, and I'll go back to the dark ages...
I had my cell for about 3 years I think. Maybe it's still working because I haven't used it much. What's an LP player again?
TVs with knobs? Hhmmm
We live in a disposable society now. Kinda sucks :
T-Mobile knows about this and has no solutions for it. Their data service sucks too. I could have 2-3 lines and the "G" and not move at all for an hour, then all of a sudden get the "X" (no service). My calls sometimes get the automatic drop (didn't go through) or they get dropped all of a sudden. I am contemplating going to AT&T and getting an iPhone when my contract is up.
it fried the phone and sim chip verizon was like OH well... they dont have us as a customer any more
I suppose threatening to throw the companies that made cheap equipment out on to the street helped.
Highly illogiKLUUREcckk SHIT MY EYE!!!
Tell me the manufacturer and model number and I should be able to tell you how to blindly transfer all your contacts from your phone to your sim
and i know what you mean about things just falling apart. Everything was built better back in the day *cough* the 90's *cough*
we are all doomed
I just recently got a Kyocera K312, and though it seems like a nice little phone, I'm wondering if it's going to hold up like my Nokia's did, or if it's going to suffer "Flip phone death".
the big problem with things today, is that companies take no pride whatsoever in their products anymore. It's not about making the customer happy, or producing a product that is really great anymore. But instead it's about how can we trim things down and cut costs as much as possible so we can make the most profit. Money is the do all and end all. Sad really. I often find myself longing for the days when you could feel confidant in a purchase, knowing that you'd bought something that would stand the test of time. That logic seems waisted in a world where things are made so cheeply that everything cost more to repair than it's worth.
I work for an indirect Verizon dealer, we have one at each store. Check around. See if someone has one. As far as the screen.... Does taking the battery out for a few minutes and putting it back in affect anything? It's PROBABLY just a screen issue. If the PHONE was "going out" you would have issues with sending and receiving calls too. It's probably that your screen went out, and some places can even replace them.
